Well, Well, Well, Keanu Reeves’ Constantine 2 Has A Script, Producer Tells Us He’s ‘Afraid to Read It’

As a fan who has been following the DC Universe since its early days, I must say that the news about Keanu Reeves’ Constantine 2 is like a breath of fresh air! After waiting for over a decade for the sequel, it’s heartening to know that not only does a script exist but also that it has left such an impact on producers like Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

The superhero genre remains a dominant influence in the entertainment sector, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe maintaining its momentum, and a fresh DC Universe under James Gunn on the horizon. This has sparked lots of speculation about upcoming DC films, leaving some viewers curious about the potential return of Keanu Reeves’ ‘Constantine 2’. Recently, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura shared with us at TopMob his apprehension towards reading the script for this movie.

As a dedicated gamer, I recently had the privilege to chat with Lorenzo di Bonaventura about his latest project, Transformers One. During our conversation, we somehow steered the discussion towards Constantine, a thrilling movie that’s available for streaming on Amazon Prime. When asked about the possibility of a sequel, this talented producer couldn’t hide his enthusiasm and said:

I’m really happy to hear your positive sentiment. The script did show up in my inbox recently, but I haven’t had a chance to read it yet. To be honest, I’m a bit apprehensive about reading it since I truly hope it will be fantastic.

It’s quite a buzz! Having a script for Constantine 2, even though the Transformers producer hasn’t gone through it yet, is definitely going to excite DC comics fans. Given that moviegoers have been yearning since 2005 to see Keanu Reeves back in live-action as this character, such news certainly boosts our enthusiasm for what’s coming up next.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura’s apprehension towards reading the potential “Constantine 2” script demonstrates his deep investment in the prospective sequel. Just as devoted fans eagerly followed the DC movie series, he desires Reeves’ reprisal of the supernatural hero to be exceptional.

Information about the development of a sequel to “Constantine” emerged in the year 2022, marking a lengthy journey to its current stage. The writer’s strike delayed “Constantine 2”, but it appears that the draft has now been finalized. All we can do is wait and find out how the studio and producers respond to this draft.

If the script for the potential sequel is as strong as Lorenzo di Bonaventura expects, an important question arises: will it be part of James Gunn’s fresh take on DC Universe, known as Gods and Monsters? Given that the filmmaker has definite ideas for this shared universe, it seems likely. However, if Constantine 2 doesn’t align, it could potentially exist outside of the primary franchise, similar to how the studio handled the Joker series and Matt Reeves’ Batman universe.

In contrast to the DCEU, where magic and supernatural elements were not major themes (with the exception of Enchantress in Suicide Squad), it’s clear that fans have a strong interest in these aspects of DC lore. Fingers crossed that Constantine 2 will progress and deliver what fans are eagerly anticipating.

The movie “Transformers One” will be shown in cinemas starting from September 20th. Don’t forget to take a look at the upcoming 2025 movie releases to find out what exciting films are scheduled for next year.
