In an old interview, Saif Ali Khan expressed his fondness for Faiz Ahmad Faiz and Mirza Ghalib as his favorite poets, a statement that continues to resonate on the internet. However, in a different context, the actor from Devara clarified that at the time of making that statement, he was taking medication and may not have been fully mentally present.
In a 2022 interview on Zoom, Saif Ali Khan was asked about an earlier interview where he named Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Mirza Ghalib as his favorite poets. Pondering over it, the actor admitted honestly, “I believe I might have been under some sort of treatment during that interview, if we can call it that. It appears I was on medication, but with so many interviews under my belt, I suspect I’ve been given medication for some of them. At times, I haven’t been fully mentally present.
He went on to say that it’s beneficial to remain humble and straightforward up to a certain point in life, which he observes in his son, Ibrahim Ali Khan. However, he added that later in life, this might not be appropriate. The actor expressed pride in the interview because he felt authentic during the conversation.
He stated that he used to be quite casual and genuine, but as he grew older, he found himself becoming more formal or affected – what some might call pretentious. He explained that being completely honest with everyone can sometimes be unnecessary, even though it’s not always appreciated, and there’s a risk of encountering trouble for doing so.
For those not familiar, during an interview on Doordarshan, the actor was questioned about his passion for poetry and if he had a preferred poet. Swiftly, he mentioned some renowned poets.
However, the very next instant he chuckled and declared, “I’m utterly babbling nonsense. My grandmother used to read these, and now my father does. Is this the age for me to read such things?” He further disclosed that he had studied Western poetry and that his father considers Faiz an extraordinary poet.
