Why 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way's James And Metalia Have Me Suspecting They Aren't Really Moving To Indonesia

As a long-time gamer who’s spent countless hours navigating through virtual worlds and making tough decisions, I can tell you that James and Meitalia’s situation on “90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way” reminds me of a challenging level in a game I once played – frustratingly difficult and seemingly without a clear solution.

For me, James and Meitalia remain the most vexing couple from Season 6 of “90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way.” While James’ lack of timely communication was already aggravating, a recent revelation has made their long-term living in Indonesia even more uncertain. As the season finale left Meitalia weeping and kissing her mother’s feet, I find myself questioning whether their commitment to moving to Indonesia is genuine or if it’s merely for the sake of the show’s narrative.

Interestingly enough, it turns out that James and Meitalia, much like Statler and Dempsey Wilkinson, are not exempt from vehicle-related turmoil. They shared with us their ongoing financial obligations for their car back home, shedding light on a situation that leaves me more convinced they may not have solidified plans to remain in Indonesia.

James And Metalia Still Have A Car In America They’re Paying Off

From our discussion in “A Risky Business,” it appears that James is worried about his financial situation if he moves to Indonesia. Initially, he thought he could manage with $10,000 in savings, but unexpected car repairs and a remaining debt of $15,000 on the vehicle have added to his financial burden. He’s currently paying $700 monthly for this vehicle, and the profit from selling banana chips is minimal, barely a dollar per sale. Given these circumstances, it seems that James’ savings will be depleted quite rapidly unless some significant changes occur.

As James and Meitalia pondered their dilemma, their parents decided to settle the debt instead. I found myself wondering why they felt compelled to pay off a car in the U.S., rather than selling or trading it. After all, what purpose does a vehicle serve abroad if you have no plans to drive it anytime soon?

It seems more logical to me to sell the vehicle and use the proceeds to pay off a portion of the existing debt. However, with Meitalia’s family agreeing to cover the debt, they can keep the car without financial concerns. But one may wonder why they would do this if they have no immediate plans to drive it.

Will James And Meitalia Stay In Indonesia?

It’s uncertain if James and Meitalia are still residing in Indonesia. As I mentioned earlier, I was taken aback when a family member discouraged her from returning, which has left me questioning their decision. Given that James had a secure job with his family back home, earning significantly more than they could in Indonesia, it seems odd for them to stay there. This could be why the vehicle hasn’t been sold; perhaps he believes Meitalia will eventually understand the need to return home.

This explains so much.

As someone who has seen many relationships crumble under the weight of financial stress and unrealistic expectations, I can’t help but feel a sense of unease when observing this new couple, Josh and Lily. Their relationship seems tenuous at best, with signs of instability that are all too familiar to me. The fact that Josh has already experienced a doomed marriage might make him overly cautious, fearing they could be the next 90-day couple to split up.

I’m supporting James and Meitalia, but I’m doubtful about their move to Indonesia. He doesn’t speak the language, they struggle to earn enough money to buy a house by selling banana chips, and it seems challenging for him to find better job opportunities there. I believe they should reconsider returning to the U.S., save up more money, and devise a more solid plan before attempting this again. At least, they need a secure financial cushion before they can realistically consider moving to Indonesia again.

We’ll find out whether James and Meitalia have found a way to prolong their stay in Indonesia, as their journey on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way unfolds each Monday at 8:00 p.m. ET on TLC. Don’t miss the upcoming episodes to see how her parents react to this emotional situation and if the topic of children comes up in future discussions.
