Why Channing Tatum’s Deadpool & Wolverine Cameo Saw Him Break Tradition

As a seasoned movie enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of comic book adaptations over the years, I must say that Channing Tatum’s portrayal of Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine was nothing short of electrifying. His long-awaited journey to embody this iconic character, which was initially thwarted by the vagaries of Hollywood, made his performance all the more captivating.

As a movie enthusiast, I’ve always been captivated by Channing Tatum’s on-screen magic, but even he has his quirks – like the tendency to pilfer items from movie sets. However, when it came to playing Gambit alongside Deadpool and Wolverine, he had to resist the temptation as he was “petrified” of attempting to swipe the costume. It’s a role that Tatum has longed for since his early days in Hollywood, a project that sadly never saw the light of day. But this year, he finally got the chance to slip into the shoes of Gambit in a summer blockbuster, adding another delightful cameo to the film’s impressive roster.

It’s a bit disappointing that Channing Tatum couldn’t keep any mementos from his iconic role as Gambit, despite its significant importance to him. This was evident when he participated in Vanity Fair’s lie detector test with his co-stars Zoë Kravitz and Naomi Ackie, where he admitted that he wasn’t able to do so during their interview titled “Blink Twice”. When Kravitz asked Tatum if he still had the costume, he confessed that he did not.

In most films, I secretly take the final costume I’ve worn. On this occasion though, fear held me back from doing so.

It appears that Tatum’s past roles align well with the character of Gambit, lending credence to his suitability for the part. It’s amusingly ironic that he failed to take his costume one time, especially since he was portraying a character who might have walked off with it instead. Maybe everything happens for a reason, and that costume is still at Marvel Studios, ready for him to slip back into it should he reprise the role in the future.

Will Channing Tatum Play Gambit Again in the MCU?

Despite uncertainty surrounding the future of Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Wesley Snipes’ Blade, Dafne Keene’s Laura/X-23, and other notable characters who graced the screen in Deadpool & Wolverine, as well as the main characters themselves, Channing Tatum expresses a sense of lingering tasks related to his character.

In recent interviews about Deadpool and Wolverine, Tatum hinted at doing something extreme to persuade Marvel Studios to reconsider the canceled Gambit movie. Given the positive response from fans to his remarks, it’s challenging to dismiss the possibility entirely. However, with Marvel Studios currently juggling numerous projects, fitting a revival of the Gambit film into their schedule could be challenging. This is particularly true since Disney CEO Bob Iger has scaled back the ambitious production plans that Kevin Feige and his team were pursuing under former CEO Bob Chapek’s leadership.

Maybe this will be the unique chance we have to watch Channing Tatum as Gambit on screen. If it is, perhaps someone in the Marvel Studios wardrobe department could overlook him popping in one day to grab his dry cleaning – just this once.

The movie featuring Deadpool and Wolverine is currently showing in cinemas. Meanwhile, Channing Tatum appears in the Netflix thriller titled “Blink Twice.”
