Kevin Hart blames Ice Cube for the reason he stopped doing his own stunts in movies.
In the most recent installment of Hot Ones, the comedic actor made his comeback. Host Sean Evans inquired whether he had any anecdotes about dangerous stunts that backfired or unintentionally experiencing a blow during the filming of a particular scene.
During the latest episode of Hot Ones, the comedian-actor reappeared. Sean Evans, the host, wanted to know if he had any tales about mishaps with stunts or accidentally receiving a hit while filming a specific sequence.
Hart shared that he had numerous tales to tell, but one incident from his work on the film “Ride Along” significantly shifted his viewpoint regarding stunt work. Reflecting on the experience, he said, “I have a fascinating story about Ice Cube. During a stunt for the movie, Ice Cube accidentally struck one of the stuntmen in the face, causing him to momentarily lose consciousness. This made me realize, ‘Wow! We can actually get hurt?’
In a conversation about “Jumanji: The Next Level,” the actor shared, “I recall Cube embracing the stunt performer, saying something like ‘You’ll be fine.’ … The stunt person replied, ‘I’m okay,’ but it was clear he had a small nosebleed.
It was at that moment when Hart “stopped with the idea of wanting to do stunts so much.”
Previously, my youthful self would eagerly exclaim, ‘Place me on the table! Give it your all and let’s create an impactful scene in a single take!’ However, at 45 years old, I no longer have the desire or ability to run as I once did.
As a gamer, I’ve got to give a shout-out to the stunt community out there. These folks are putting themselves on the line and showing off some serious skill. It’s about time they got more recognition! We need a stunt award for them, honestly. They deserve way more love than they’re getting.
The actor Lil Kev mentioned that certain films you’ve enjoyed, which feature characters leaping from buildings, crashing through windows, or tumbling off cliffs, often use real people for these dangerous scenes. He’s witnessed stuntmen getting injured and heard the director ask if there’s a backup stuntman ready to take over.
In the 2014 film titled “Ride Along,” we follow the character Ben, a security guard, who is determined to win over his girlfriend’s older brother, the esteemed police officer James. To do so, he embarks on an action-packed 24-hour patrol ride-along with James through Atlanta, aiming to prove his worth.
Hart was previously a guest on Hot Ones in 2016.
