Wicked Star Kristin Chenoweth Reveals Her Reaction to the Broadway Adaptation

As a long-time theater enthusiast who had the privilege of bringing the original Wicked to life on Broadway, I can confidently say that the big screen adaptation has left me absolutely spellbound! I’ve seen my fair share of musicals, but this one… this one is something truly extraordinary.

The Tony Award-winning star from the initial run of the Broadway hit Wicked, shared her thoughts on this year’s film adaptation. Via social media, she disclosed that she recently watched the much-anticipated movie musical, where Ariana Grande portrays the character of Glinda the Good Witch that she originated. She expressed her feelings by stating, “I will never be the same.

On Instagram, Chenoweth posted a video of her post-screening reaction, captioned “You won’t believe how amazing it is! I’ll never be the same!!”. She highly commended the main actors, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.

Wow, I’ve just watched that movie and it blew me away! I feel like I’ve seen a masterpiece. Others aren’t going to be prepared for how incredible this film is. It’s simply fantastic, it’s something extraordinary.

What an extraordinary tale! Both Cynthia and Ariana, as well as the entire ensemble, are simply outstanding. Kudos to Jon Chu for a job well done. I was deeply touched, feeling a mix of emotions – from tears to pure joy. Everyone should definitely catch Wicked; it’s truly a blessing not to be missed!

Wicked Flies Into Theaters on November 22

Initially, Kristin Chenoweth made her debut in the musical “Wicked” opposite Idina Menzel as Elphaba the Witch of the West back in 2003. This production was based on Gregory Maguire’s novel from 1995 and L. Frank Baum’s “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” series. Chenoweth received a Tony nomination for Best Actress in a Musical, with Menzel taking home the award that year.

Under the direction of Jon M. Chu, and penned by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox, the musical phenomenon Wicked is set to be divided into two films. The initial installment, slated for release this year, will feature Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James, Keala Settle, and Peter Dinklage in lead roles.

Chenoweth hugely promising reaction chimes with what we’ve heard about the movie musical so far. The first early reactions have now emerged, with Variety’s Clayton Davis also heaping praise on the two leads, saying, “Galinda is the role Ariana Grande was born to play. Perfectly suited and genuinely a hilarious, scene-stealing performance. Cynthia Erivo’s heavenly vocals allow her to make Elphaba her own.” Critic Simon Thomspon, meanwhile, declares the adaptation an “Oz-some spectacle that pops and enchants on the big screen. An absolutely stunning vision. Leads Erivo and Grande knock it out of the park. While this perhaps won’t convert many anti-musical folks, genre fans and die-hard Ozians (Wickhards?) will feast on this.”

The story, “Untold Tales,” delves into the unspoken past of the witches in Oz, focusing on Elphaba, a young woman marked by her emerald skin, who is still learning about her hidden powers. Meanwhile, Glinda, a well-to-do and ambitious young woman, hasn’t yet discovered the depths of her own heart. These two women form an unexpected bond as students at Shiz University in the magical realm of Oz. After meeting The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship faces a critical juncture, leading them down separate paths in life.>
