Will The Golden Bachelorette’s Joan And Chock Follow In Gerry And Theresa’s Footsteps? Here’s What They’ve Said About What’s Next

As a long-time admirer of the Bachelor franchise, I must admit that watching the love stories unfold on television has been a rollercoaster ride. From Gerry and Theresa’s whirlwind romance to Joan Vassos and Chock Chapple’s budding relationship, each couple brings a unique dynamic to the table.

For approximately a month now, the engagement of “The Golden Bachelorette” couple Joan Vassos and Chock Chapple has been made public. Similar to Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist from last year’s spinoff, spectators are intrigued about their private life: Are they cohabiting? Are they genuinely a couple? Will their wedding be broadcasted on television? The pair have addressed these questions, and it seems they are considering taking the next big step – a televised wedding, just like Gerry and Theresa did.

A year ago, Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist’s wedding date was already established and revealed during the finale of The Golden Bachelor. In contrast, Joan Vassos and Chock Chapple are taking things slower, but there might be a change in their plans due to an intriguing rationale expressed by Joan on the Call It What It Is podcast. She mentioned:

Initially, I desired our relationship to be private, just us as a couple, surrounded by family and friends, away from public scrutiny – a moment of intimacy, free from being a spectacle for others. However, after contemplating the impact the show has had on viewers, filling them with hope, I feel it’s not appropriate to abandon our audience at the doorstep as they prepare for what could be the true finale – a wedding.

According to Joan Vassos, since they found love on TV, it seems only fair to let the audience witness what might be the crucial step in their relationship’s progression. As they explained during the podcast, their intimate wedding will be a private affair, whereas a special event like Gerry and Theresa’s extravagant wedding – reminiscent of their unforgettable nuptials – would cater to fans, viewership ratings, and any financial benefits they might receive from ABC.

Chock Chapple wondered aloud if that was a trade they were willing to make, saying:

It seems like sharing some control might be necessary. After all, with both of us involved, we could certainly organize an extraordinary celebration.

As someone who’s been a devoted follower of The Bachelor franchise for quite some time, I’m not particularly invested in whether Gerry and Theresa tie the knot on live TV; what I truly hope is that they avoid walking the path to the courthouse! Their quick marriage didn’t turn out well for the first Golden Bachelor couple, as they announced their divorce a mere three months later.

It’s possible that geographical distance was a contributing factor to their separation, as they chose to live apart without any intentions for relocation. However, it’s important to note that Gerry Turner was diagnosed with cancer during those times. Theresa Nist maintains that the cancer didn’t influence their decision, and I find her claim convincing, especially given that Gerry has mentioned he’s dating again.

Come November, I found myself echoing similar sentiments about exchanging vows as many others might. To Decider, I confessed my hesitation towards the stressful journey of wedding planning that lies ahead. In simpler terms, I wasn’t exactly thrilled about all the tension that a wedding entails.

As a movie enthusiast, I’ve been pondering the idea that perhaps we might consider a public affair sometime in the future. Initially, our conversations were casual, confined within our circle of friends and family. But for now, we’re content with enjoying each other’s company in public and leading a normal life together. Planning a wedding is no small task, so I’m not quite ready to dive into that just yet. Maybe after the holidays, I’ll start contemplating it more seriously. It’s a big step and a lot of work.

Here’s another reason to add The Golden Wedding: Part 2 to your list: Having ABC in control means fewer decisions for her! As we anticipate whether or not Joan Vassos and Chock Chapple will walk down the aisle, I’m already excited about the 2025 TV lineup. Grant Ellis is set to embark on his own quest for love in The Bachelor. Don’t miss it at 8 p.m. ET on Monday, January 27, only on ABC and available the next day with a Hulu subscription.
