As a seasoned gamer and wrestling enthusiast with over three decades under my belt, I’ve seen the evolution of this captivating spectacle unfold like a gripping narrative. From Hulk Hogan’s dominance to Stone Cold Steve Austin’s rebellion, and now the rise of women in the sport, pro wrestling has consistently kept me on the edge of my seat.
Currently, professional wrestling is experiencing a significant surge in popular culture. The media landscape is abuzz with updates on upcoming WWE events and AEW’s ventures, but other platforms are also aiming to make their mark within this industry. One such platform, Women Of Wrestling (WOW), has been striving for recognition since 2000. Starting September, it will be accessible in every national market. With these expansion plans underway, TopMob is curious about how WOW intends to thrive amidst the fierce competition. David McLane, its creator, was asked to share their strategies.
I had a conversation with Mr. McLane during San Diego Comic-Con, where I asked him about the unique selling point of WOW amidst consumers having only a Premium Peacock subscription for WWE PLEs. Impressively, the executive, who helped establish the brand, promptly responded. The organization is particularly proud of its entire female cast of performers and plans to capitalize on this by focusing on providing more opportunities for women wrestlers to shine, appealing to an audience eager to witness them in the spotlight.
In contrast to other wrestling leagues that occasionally incorporate women’s wrestling, ours focuses solely on it around the clock. Consequently, no professional wrestling organization can match our ability to weave compelling narratives or breathe life into characters as we do. This is because they are divided in terms of resources, having to cater to both male and female performers.
Although the WWE has significantly improved its management of women’s wrestling, a glance at our SummerSlam predictions for 2024 reveals that there is still room for improvement. Only two out of seven matches on one of the most significant pay-per-views of the year might seem acceptable, but some argue that an equal split between men and women would be more fitting. Interestingly, WOW, a league exclusively featuring women, provides them with more screen time compared to their counterparts in the WWE.
Can We Talk About How Much Better The WWE Women’s Division Has Gotten Over The Last Decade?

There’s a lot to love these days about women’s wrestling.
Women of Wrestling (WOW) stands out from its peers by offering more opportunities for women’s narratives and character development. One of the pioneers of female wrestling in WOW is AJ Menendez, who made a significant impact on women’s wrestling during her time with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Known as AJ Lee there, she played a crucial role in transforming the Divas division into one featuring full-fledged superstars. One of her most memorable moments was passing her title to Paige, which marked a turning point for women’s wrestling within WWE. Although fans have longed for AJ to team up with her husband, CM Punk, in WWE again, she is currently lending her voice as a color commentator for WOW.
For those who haven’t yet joined the Women Of Wrestling (WOW) fanbase, you now have the opportunity to watch it for free on Pluto TV. This platform offers a variety of movies and soon will feature a 24/7 channel dedicated exclusively to WOW, similar to the recently launched Big Brother channel. Essentially, if you’re interested, you can start watching it for free very soon. This could be an excellent chance to catch some unique women’s wrestling that isn’t available elsewhere. Plus, increased viewership could help boost WOW’s standing among its competitors. So why not seize this opportunity and enjoy an extra hour of exciting WOW action?
Starting September 17th, brace yourself for Women Of Wrestling in your local market (or catch it already streaming), right here on Pluto TV! As a die-hard pro-wrestling enthusiast, I can’t hide my excitement. Here’s to hoping that their exceptional talent continues to flourish and make waves within the wrestling industry. Don’t miss out on the first two seasons available for streaming now!
