Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel – Banned cards list

As a long-time Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel player with countless hours spent dueling against opponents from all around the world, I can’t help but be passionate about the game and its ever-evolving meta. Having experienced both sides of the coin – the thrill of building a powerful deck that outmaneuvers my adversaries, as well as the frustration of facing off against an unbeatable combination of cards – I wholeheartedly understand the reasoning behind certain cards being banned.

As a long-time player of dueling games, I’ve seen my fair share of powerful cards being banned and unbanned over the years. But one update that particularly stands out in my memory is the one from June 7th, 2024. I still recall the excitement when Konami announced the addition of a new card to the ban list: Hot Red Dragon Archfiend King Calamity.

Below you can find a complete list of Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel cards that have been banned by Konami. Why might you be interested in that, you may wonder? That’s simple – you cannot use the banned cards in your decks, so if the thought of assembling a deck that contains one of them crossed your mind, it’s time to reconsider.

Initially, let’s compile a list of prohibited Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel cards. Afterward, we’ll delve deeper into the reasons behind the ban of certain cards and discuss their impact on the game meta.

Why are some cards banned?

The reason why a few of the cards are banned varies, but it mainly depends on the meta. For instance, whenever a new set is out that could have a potentially outstanding synergy with a card, to the extent that it makes the deck downright frustrating to play against, a card could result in getting banned.

One frequent explanation for why a card may be prohibited from use is its excessive power. Other possible explanations include the card itself being overpowered and requiring restriction with a limit on the number of copies allowed in a deck (often one or two). Nevertheless, if the card’s strength surpasses acceptable levels, it could result in an outright ban.
