10 Batman Villains Who Deserve Their Own Movies More Than Clayface Does

Currently, the status of the cinematic DC Universe (DCU) is somewhat ambiguous. The fate of James Gunn’s DCU hinges on the upcoming Superman film in 2025. On the other hand, viewers are becoming increasingly uncertain about Matt Reeves’s The Batman Part II. Furthermore, there’s a plan for to headline his own DC horror movie, but it seems that his rogues gallery could be more like a museum, and there are many villains who could claim their own silver-screen fame just as deservingly.

Among Batman’s formidable foes, Clayface stands out due to his unique ability to transform into various forms as a result of his acting skills gone awry. However, it’s time for other villains such as Bane, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy to have their second chances on the silver screen. Moreover, DC films could benefit from introducing characters like The Batman Who Laughs and Kite Man, who have yet to take center stage in major productions.

Audiences have already seen Bane, the formidable Batman adversary, on the silver screen. He appeared as one of the antagonists in Batman & Robin, although it’s not often discussed. Moreover, he was the primary villain in The Dark Knight Rises. There’s plenty of potential for DC films to explore more stories featuring Bane.

Executive and writing professionals might find inspiration in the latest comic book series. For instance, “I Am Bane” and “City of Bane” are examples that could offer intriguing perspectives. Notably, some of Bane’s most powerful early tales had minimal appearances by Batman, suggesting a potential film could delve into a globetrotting Bane’s journey to master combat or transition into a mercenary role.

Arnold Schwarzenegger famously played the role of Mr. Freeze in Batman & Robin, but since then, this Batman adversary has not been portrayed as a movie villain. Mr. Freeze is one of Batman’s wealthiest and sometimes collaborative enemies. Like many Batman villains, Freeze is complex, driven by the ambition to save his wife and himself.

As a gaming enthusiast, if I were scripting a Batman movie, I’d definitely draw inspiration from Mr. Freeze’s portrayal in “Batman: The Animated Series”. However, “Batman: White Knight” offers some compelling stories about Victor Fries that delve deeper into his roots within the very heart of Gotham City itself.

In the movie “Batman Begins,” Ra’s al Ghul was portrayed as a significant antagonist, yet his narrative seemed to offer a more simplified take on his character from the comics. Known as the leader of the League of Assassins, Ra’s al Ghul is also the father of Talia al Ghul and the grandfather of Damian Wayne in the comic book series.

Depending on how closely a Ra’s al Ghul movie might tie into the broader DC Universe, the film could draw from supporting characters of the League, primarily focusing on Ra’s al Ghul’s numerous offspring, including Nyssa. The character known as the Demon’s Head may be on a quest to find his successor, embittered by Batman’s rejection, and potentially seeking recognition from Damian.

There’s a lot of excitement surrounding the concept of multiverses at the moment, and it’s evident in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). With upcoming movies like “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars”, it seems that Marvel is deepening its exploration of the multiverse. The DC Universe could join in, potentially producing a film featuring Batman Who Laughs instead of the classic Dark Knight character.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but express my enthusiasm for the opportunity to see more of Zoë Kravitz’s captivating portrayal of Catwoman following her impressive performance in The Batman. It seems like the perfect moment to greenlight another solo Catwoman movie, one that would shine a spotlight on her character without the need for Batman. Just as her character emerged from Batman’s shadow in The Batman, a future film could follow suit and allow Catwoman to stand alone.

In the past, Two-Face has made appearances in Batman films, and similar to Clayface, this longstanding Batman adversary has the potential to headline his own movie. Two-Face is not just a character with two sides; he’s complex and multilayered. The transformation of Harvey Dent into a villain is captivating, and a standalone film could delve deeper into his intricate personalities.

Movies inspired by comics such as “Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth” could provide an excellent blueprint for a Two-Face film. This potential production might feature a portrayal of Harvey Dent, where his mental state gradually declines throughout the storyline.

Kite Man is not widely recognized as a formidable Batman adversary; instead, he’s often portrayed comically. In writer Tom King’s Batman Rebirth comic series, Kite Man made several appearances. His rising fame led to him being featured in the Harley Quinn animated show and even starring in his own spin-off production.

If DC aims to broaden the scope of their cinematic universe that revolves around Batman, a potential approach could be producing a live-action movie centered around Kite Man. This film might employ humor to satirize some of the over-the-top elements within Batman’s world, offering a comical take on the misadventures of an aspiring villain who frequently finds himself in unfortunate circumstances.

During the “Knightfall” comic series, Azrael gained recognition as he assumed the role previously held by Batman, adopting the Dark Knight persona in a unique manner. He equipped his Batman suit with armor and deadly weaponry, even managing to overpower Bane at the peak of his strength.

Transforming Azrael into a live-action film would be simply sensational, broadening the scope of the Batman universe to encompass characters beyond the typical Gotham City denizens. This cinematic adventure could delve deeper into the Order of St. Dumas and reveal some of the DC Universe’s more ancient and legendary dimensions.

Over the past ten years, there’s been a significant surge in the fame of Poison Ivy. A substantial part of this can be attributed to her deepening romantic connection with Harley Quinn. While Harley has since headlined her own animated show, featured in standalone films, and appeared in the Suicide Squad series, Ivy continues to play a supporting role in these productions.

Following the latest triumph of her standalone comic book series transitioning to the silver screen (with hopes for Harley’s presence), her complex character transcends past conflicts with Batman. Potentially, a future movie might delve into subtexts about ecology and environmental conservation, given Ivy’s affinity towards nature.

In this scenario, Zur-En-Arrh is not the ally that Bruce Wayne expected; instead, he becomes a hindrance in Batman’s journey. Essentially, Zur-En-Arrh takes on an antagonistic role, contrary to his intended function as a helpful character. During the “Failsafe” storyline, Batman found it challenging to keep his concealed secondary identity, and Zur-En-Arrh resurfaced once more.

In simpler terms, Zur-En-Arrh represents a version of Batman without the presence of Bruce Wayne, portraying a darker, amoral Batman who might consider eliminating villains like the Joker. A movie featuring Zur-En-Arrh as either the antagonist or protagonist would dramatically alter Batman’s universe, as it blurs the lines between hero and villain for the Dark Knight.
