Just announced is the upcoming film from the studio, titled “Godzilla x Kong: Supernova,” slated for release in 2027. There’s been plenty of buzz surrounding the movie’s plot, with suggestions hinted at through the newly released teaser trailer. However, it remains possible that other giant monsters, such as Godzilla and Kong, may not be the only ones featured in the film.
SpaceGodzilla, Suko, and Mothra are among the Titans that fans speculate may appear in Godzilla vs Kong: Supernova. The film’s title hints at other possible Titans, which might be those not seen since Godzilla’s Showa era movies. These could be monsters from some of the most iconic Godzilla films ever made, although the MonsterVerse could breathe new life into them and give them a fresh start.
First Appearance: Godzilla vs. Gigan
In the latter part of the Showa era, Gigan emerged as one of Godzilla’s adversaries, first appearing in the movie “Godzilla vs. Gigan.” Essentially an alien cyborg reptile monster, this formidable foe was manufactured by extraterrestrial beings known as the Nebulans to cause destruction on Earth. He even joined forces with King Ghidorah, and while his origins might seem a bit quirky, his fierce demeanor and attacks endeared him to fans.
In simpler terms, Gigan is famous for being one of the monsters who managed to make Godzilla bleed, thanks to his buzzsaw torso and sharp hooks that pose a significant danger to any opponents. Since the trailer hints at a threat coming from outer space, Gigan could be a fitting character. If he resembles his original design, this movie might turn out to be the most violent in the MonsterVerse series so far.
First Appearance: Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla
In his first film appearance, Mechagodzilla stole the show, with Godzilla himself being the only other notable character. This is why other monsters introduced in the movie, such as King Caesar, aren’t as well-known or frequently used, despite being considered a benevolent deity. King Caesar, modeled after the Chinese shisa, was an unusual creature with characteristics resembling both a dog and a lion. His humanoid posture and mammalian traits made him more reminiscent of Kong than Godzilla or his fellow reptilian creatures.
In the MonsterVerse, some Titans are considered divine entities, so King Caesar could easily fit into this category. His appearance in the upcoming film doesn’t have to be significant, but considering the global chaos caused by the rampaging Titans, he might make a brief appearance among them. If nothing else, this would keep his character relevant and ready for use in future films.
First Appearance: Godzilla vs. Megalon
As a devoted moviegoer with a soft spot for monstrous mayhem, I must confess that Godzilla vs. Megalon holds a unique place in the series’ history, largely due to its distinctive style. For some viewers, it’s a cherished gem, but for many others, including myself, it marked the solidification of a more juvenile, cartoonish vibe that characterized the franchise during the Showa era. This is evident in the vibrant superhero robot, Jet Jaguar, who, much like Godzilla, could expand to colossal proportions to battle foes.
In contrast to his initial, less serious depiction, Jet Jaguar may undergo an upgrade within the MonsterVerse. Instead of being a mere monster, the new version of Jet Jaguar could be a piloted mecha designed specifically for battling Godzilla, mirroring the Jaegers in the Pacific Rim movies. Interestingly, this reimagining might hint at elements from the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well, introducing a superhero-like aspect to the character.
First Appearance: Godzilla vs. Megalon
Making its first appearance in the film “Godzilla vs. Megalon,” along with Jet Jaguar, Megalon can be thought of as an enormous, irradiated cockroach monster. His character served as the protector of an underground civilization, which sent him to the surface due to the risks posed by environmental testing. This led to a partnership between Megalon and Gigan, with the duo taking on both Godzilla and Jet Jaguar. Interestingly, Godzilla was essentially playing a guest role in his own movie.
In the context of the film, it would be fitting for Megalon to make an appearance as a secondary antagonist, especially if some scenes are set within Hollow Earth. This underground setting could allow us to reimagine and modernize Megalon’s subterranean nature, perhaps even suggesting that he is a native of this hidden world. Kong may encounter him on his journey from the depths towards the surface, and there might be an entire species of Megalon dwelling in this environment.
First Appearance: The Mysterians
In the Showa period Toho movie titled “The Mysterians,” there appeared a mole-like robot named Moguera, unrelated to the Godzilla films at that time. However, during the Heisei era, this mechanical creature was upgraded and rebranded as M.O.G.U.E.R.A., making its debut in “Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla.” In this movie, it had the unique ability to separate into two distinct units, one of which played a crucial role in vanquishing the film’s titular antagonist.
In the upcoming movie, it’s widely speculated that SpaceGodzilla will serve as the antagonist. Introducing a Moguera-like character could logically follow. This character could be depicted as a manned machine or remote-controlled device, used by Monarch to either fend off or assist the Titans. This scenario would empower humanity, allowing them to dictate their own fate and potentially give them an edge in battles against the Titans, rather than being subject to their control.
First Appearance: Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
2024’s movie titled “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” took an unconventional approach by introducing entirely new enemy Titans, namely Skar King, the ape Titan, and Shimo, a unique being that combined reptilian and mammalian traits while also possessing cryokinetic abilities. Initially, Shimo was enslaved by Skar King but managed to break free. Later, the Titan allied with Godzilla and eventually returned to Hollow Earth.
It’s quite probable that Shimo will make an appearance in the upcoming MonsterVerse film, given that Kong is suggested to dwell within the Hollow Earth. If this is true, Kong and Godzilla might need her assistance later in the story. This role would position Shimo as akin to Mothra, the queen of the Titans in the surface world, but for the Hollow Earth.
First Appearance: Rebirth of Mothra
In the MonsterVerse, King Ghidorah had previously been introduced, defeated, and even utilized to construct Mechagodzilla. This twist left some fans dissatisfied, given Ghidorah’s historical role as one of Godzilla’s primary adversaries. However, there are creative methods to reintroduce him in a new form, potentially incorporating aspects from his various appearances throughout the years.
In the first Rebirth of Mothra film, we encountered a different version of King Ghidorah, named Desghidorah. Unlike the traditional form, this one had four legs and was darker in appearance. The MonsterVerse could introduce this character to reinstate Ghidorah without contradicting or altering events from previous movies. While Desghidorah’s origin could be similar to that of Heisei Ghidorah (who had more Earth-based origins in his universe), it might go against the extraterrestrial threat hinted at by the trailer for the upcoming series, but this is just speculation.
First Appearance: Godzilla vs. Mothra
Mothra is generally gentler and more thoughtful than Godzilla, yet she remains a protector of the Earth, capable of causing destruction if humans harm the planet. However, she sometimes has a counterpart who is much deadlier in his actions. It’s worth noting that Battra is often perceived as being more like Godzilla in temperament, acting aggressively towards humanity.
In the MonsterVerse, Battra could potentially serve a role similar to Mothra, possibly acting as a companion to SpaceGodzilla. This appearance would mark his return to the big screen after a long hiatus of nearly decades, since he last appeared in a film at its initial release. Significantly, this portrayal underscores the message that while some Titans may be associated with environmental themes, they can still pose real threats when pushed too far.
First Appearance: Godzilla vs. Biollante
In the Heisei period, Biollante made her debut as a new kaiju, a unique blend of flora and Godzilla’s own G-Cells. This fusion resulted in a fearsome appearance that stood out among Toho’s other monster creations, earning Biollante immediate adoration from fans. Regrettably, she has been underutilized in the series since then, but there is a persistent desire to see her return as a potential addition.
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I can’t help but speculate that Biollante could potentially be a mutation, stemming from Godzilla’s genetic makeup – either due to an accident or deliberate human manipulation. This could serve as a chilling reminder of the escalating danger posed by these colossal Titans, creatures once believed to be nature’s protectors but who might also carry a taint of unnaturalness. Biollante could symbolize the unintended consequences of our efforts to cleanse and restore Mother Earth – inadvertently breeding an even greater menace.
First Appearance: Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla
Unlike Mechagodzilla, SpaceGodzilla is a biologically-derived counterpart to Godzilla. Made from a fusion of G-Cells and space crystals, this creature surpasses the original Godzilla in strength, size, and malevolence. Equipped with telekinetic abilities and adorned with enormous crystals on his shoulders, SpaceGodzilla is a formidable adversary. He invades Earth following a destructive confrontation with a M.O.G.U.E.R.A drone, then captures Godzilla’s adopted son and causes chaos using his crystal fortress as a base.
As a passionate moviegoer, I’m buzzing with excitement over the tantalizing binary code hinted in the trailer for the upcoming epic, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova. The possibility that SpaceGodzilla might make an appearance has many fans, including myself, abuzz!
This potential inclusion would serve as a refreshing shift from the previous film’s threats that emerged from the enigmatic Hollow Earth. Moreover, introducing another malevolent version of Godzilla in this movie could be a clever move to refocus attention back onto our favorite titan after Kong took center stage in the MonsterVerse.
