Although an official announcement for a new installment of “Star Wars Battlefront 2″ hasn’t been made yet, its popularity among fans has experienced a significant surge following the success of “Andor” season 2. The “Battlefront” games have gained a massive number of players due to their strong connection with the “Star Wars” fanbase and gaming community. Given the powerful grip that the “Battelfront” franchise holds over both groups, it’s hard for me to imagine Electronic Arts (EA) letting the series fade away.
As a passionate movie buff, it feels like a dream unfulfilled that EA once paused production on “Battlefront 3” due to escalating development and licensing expenses. Yet, the fervor of fans refuses to wane, as they’ve persistently campaigned for its comeback. They’ve ignited viral movements and demonstrated their unwavering commitment by rallying in droves, effectively keeping “Battlefront 2” on the radar.
While I revel at the prospect of “Battlefront” making a reappearance, let me share some ideas I believe would make a true sequel to this series truly spectacular.
10. Replacing Paid Power-Ups With More Cosmetics
Learning From The Mistakes Of Past Entries
One significant flaw in Battlefront 2 was its questionable monetization strategy, which made many heroes and weapons unavailable without additional payment. Though these issues were addressed post-release, it significantly harmed Battlefront 2’s initial reputation, hindering its long-term success.
One potential solution for EA to address this issue in the future while maintaining development costs is by adding a variety of adaptable cosmetics. However, it’s crucial to avoid excessive, immersion-breaking outfits. Striking the right balance between cosmetics offered through microtransactions or battle passes that align with the Star Wars universe without being obtrusive is a complex undertaking. Fortunately, there’s an abundance of iconic reference material available for inspiration.
9. Even More Destructible Environments To Fight Through
Making The World Of Star Wars Feel Like More Than Decoration
In Battlefront 2, an unexpected omission from its list of features was the absence of destructible environments in this upcoming next-gen title. This means that the maps don’t undergo significant changes due to player influence. While it’s understandable for EA to maintain distinct identities between their Battlefront and Battlefield franchises, the future Battlefront game could leverage the studio’s strengths more effectively by incorporating destructible environments.
In the realm of sci-fi shooter games, few experiences could rival the cinematic thrill of a Battlefront 2 battle. However, the ability to demolish buildings or cut through corridors with a lightsaber could significantly elevate this experience even further. Introducing destructible environments would not only enhance immersion but also facilitate dynamic levels that evolve throughout a match.
8. Incorporating More Complex Lightsaber Combat
Adding More Engaging Gameplay By Raising The Skill Ceiling
One of Battlefront’s notable advantages lies in its accessibility for players at all skill levels, yet it doesn’t preclude the desire for a higher level of gameplay complexity. Whether as an optional feature or exclusively for the Hero Showdown mode, I find myself yearning for intricate lightsaber duels akin to For Honor or Jedi Academy.
Lightsaber battles don’t have to be as intricate as traditional sword-fighting games, but adding a few extra moves or defensive techniques would certainly feed my hunger for lightsaber action. As for the future of Battlefront, introducing more competitive gameplay with compact modes might provide Electronic Arts (EA) the boost needed to rejuvenate the series.
7. Incorporating Even More Gear & Character Customizability
Giving Players More Room For Individuality
In a possible sequel, it wouldn’t just be the lightsabers that could benefit from an update in the Battlefront series; regular soldiers, droids, and rebels also deserve a fresh approach to their toolkit. It’s essential for distinct classes to maintain their unique identities, but offering a wider range of equipment would enhance the gameplay experience by adding more replayability and diversity across matches.
There are still numerous items left out of Battlefront 2 that haven’t been included yet, such as the Pulse Cannon and Pulse Bacta Bomb from the original Battlefront, along with many more from the series. By introducing additional customization options for character armor, the game could significantly increase its replay value even if no new gadgets are added. This would enable players to personalize their characters or role-play as their favorite clone factions once they’ve unlocked new cosmetics.
6. Allowing For More Realistic Vehicle Mechanics To Aid Immersion
Making The Experience Less Isolating To Play
One common criticism of the gameplay in the reboots of the Battlefront series is the way vehicles are handled, offering only limited options for how they operate during battle. Although completely resolving all their problems would require effort, introducing a system where vehicles could be operated or perform better when controlled by multiple players would bring about a substantial improvement.
Apart from introducing more team-focused vehicles, making those vehicles interact dynamically with the game world, allowing players to enter or exit them freely, seems like a great way to revert back to the original spirit of Battlefront. Although the fast-paced arcade-style combat of Battlefront 2 offers minimal downtime, the ability to transport squads of teammates using Gunships or transition from air combats to invading an enemy ship would significantly enhance the Battlefront experience.
5. Adding Heroes And Maps From Outside The Films
Taking Advantage Of Popular New Star Wars IPs
Due to the massive popularity of Battlefront 2 following the success of Andor‘s second season, it would be thrilling to see more elements from outside the films incorporated into the game. While characters from Andor might not be feasible due to their timing in the Star Wars universe, introducing characters from shows like Star Wars: Rebels, The Mandalorian, or even Jedi: Fallen Order would make for fantastic additions.
Following another view of Andor, it was clear that the tight alleyways, public spaces, and industrial buildings of Ferrix could offer a diverse range of maps for Battlefront 3. Beyond the selection of characters and maps, I’m eagerly anticipating that Luthen Rael’s Fondor Haulcraft might be included in the anticipated sequel. Its stylish appearance and distinctive combat features would undoubtedly make it one of the most exciting starships within Battlefront 3.
4. Introducing Creative New Modes Like Order 66
Battlefront 2 Had Plenty Of Fantastic Game Modes
Instead of traditional modes like Supremacy offering long-term enjoyment, the innovative Ewok Hunt was a delightful surprise to play. Although an Order 66-themed game mode wouldn’t evoke the same sense of fear, it could still convey the sensation of isolation and tension that makes for an exhilarating gaming experience.
In Star Wars lore, Order 66 is a defining moment. It would be truly captivating to experience the emotional turmoil depicted in this event within a dedicated game mode. Although a full game mode might not have been feasible for development, there are still numerous engaging battles from Revenge of the Sith and the Order 66 scene that could make for an exciting gaming experience.
3. Reviving Iconic Locations With Dense Maps Like Coruscant
Creating A Massive Sense Of Scale For The Series
Instead of just requesting additional maps and characters, there are some standout choices that truly shine. Although it may require a bit more effort and resources, introducing the intricate layout of Coruscant could serve as a fantastic test for cutting-edge technology to reach its full potential.
In contrast to how the Battlefront series has included battles on Coruscant, either in space or within the Jedi Temple, a distinctive gaming experience could be created by enabling players to soar between buildings and engage in combat through Coruscant’s labyrinthine residential network. Although films, official content, and games like Jedi: Survivor have hinted at Coruscant’s gameplay possibilities, numerous modders have already crafted their own custom maps within the sprawling cityscape of this vast urban landscape.
2. Introducing More Content From The Extended Universe
Limitless Potential For Powerful Fan-Favorite Characters
The vastness of the Star Wars extended universe offers countless opportunities to incorporate beloved characters and settings into the official Star Wars timeline. While it’s unlikely we’ll see a comprehensive expansion with factions, maps, and characters from the Old Republic era, there’s definitely space for some fan-favorite additions.
Although unconventional characters such as Starkiller and Jade Skywalker may not show up, focusing on cosmetic customization by EA could offer fan-pleasing appearances through transformative cosmetics. In other words, even though I can’t stir things up in Battlefront 3 with characters like Darth Malgus or HK-47, I would be thrilled if I could alter my appearance to iconic Star Wars heroes like Revan.
1. Bringing Back The Legendary Galactic Conquest Mode
A Missed Opportunity For The Modern Reboots
Translating that into more natural and easier-to-read language:
While the intricate design of Battlefront‘s Galactic Conquest mode is so extensive it could be its own game, including this simplified version in Battlefront 3 would undoubtedly please the community following the missteps with Battlefront 2. Even though creating a full-scale remake of Galactic Conquest would require significantly more resources than developing its limited co-op missions, there’s still potential for it to resurface.
While Star Wars Battlefront 2’s campaign offers intriguing ideas and some captivating scenes, its flaws and unrealized potential made it challenging to overlook. In contrast, the minimal narrative in the 2015 version of Battlefront was limited to a few missions. If resources were directed towards crafting a new Galactic Conquest mode for Battlefront 3 instead, I would be thrilled. The original Star Wars Battlefront 2’s Galactic Conquest stood out with its blend of dynamic combat and strategic gameplay. This mode allowed players to oversee galaxy-wide battles with ease.
