10 Funniest Moments From The Walking Dead

10 Funniest Moments From The Walking Dead

As a long-time fan of “The Walking Dead“, I’ve seen my fair share of zombies, drama, and unexpected humor. And let me tell you, some of the most laughable moments in this apocalyptic world are not the ones you’d expect!

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but express my admiration for “The Walking Dead,” a groundbreaking zombie (or walker, as they’re fondly known) series that has sparked both intense love and heated debate among viewers. Originating from the ingenious mind of Robert Kirkman in his comic books, this show has seen its fair share of modifications, resulting in moments that are downright hilarious. The creative choices made by directors and actors have also resulted in scenes and episodes that veer towards comedy rather than the anticipated terror.

Indeed, the program includes deliberately funny sequences designed to enhance the overall mood. Yet, unintentional instances occasionally interrupt the narrative, relieve tension, and instead of inducing fear, they prompt laughter among the audience.

10 Don’t Dead, Open Inside

Season 1, Episode 1 – “Days Gone By”

The initial episode of “The Walking Dead” introduces us to Rick Grimes, portrayed by Andrew Lincoln, who wakes up solo in a hospital and gradually comprehends that the world has met its end. As he navigates the building, he encounters a massive, locked door with fingers extending towards him. Though this scene is theoretically terrifying, the message on the door – “Don’t Open Inside” – instead evokes laughter rather than fear in the audience.

Lost in Adaptation

The intended meaning of the message was clear: “Do not open, danger lies within.” However, its delivery was puzzling instead of suspenseful. In a comedic TV series episode titled “The Oath,” we discover that the character Paul had penned this cryptic note. Given his precarious predicament at the time, it’s understandable that he might have written something perplexing, but it doesn’t diminish its comic effect.

9 Lori’s Car Crash

Season 2, Episode 8 – “Nebraska”

Following his reunion with his family, Rick makes his way to a farm belonging to the gruff yet compassionate veterinarian known as Hershel. After seeing several of Hershel’s kin and acquaintances be killed by Rick’s group, an upset Hershel decides to leave the farm and go for a drink in town. Rick follows him into the city, and later on, Rick’s wife Lori hops in her car in search of them. Unfortunately, her search is halted when she seems to have trouble remembering how to drive.

Impossibly Bad Driving

Initially, when Lori first started driving, there wasn’t much traffic on the road. Given this circumstance, it wouldn’t have been a problem if she had taken a moment to check her map. However, an unexpected incident occurred – a walker suddenly appeared in the middle of the road. In such a critical situation, most drivers would either have collided head-on with the walker or managed to brake in time. But what happened to Lori was quite fitting for one of the show’s most irritating characters – she ended up flipping the car instead.

8 Cooooooral

Multiple Episodes

In various instances, lines from The Walking Dead have been transformed into internet memes, with none being more notorious than Rick’s distinctive “Cooooooral.” This attempt to say “Carl” frequently arises during dramatic scenes, like when Rick is searching for Carl following the prison battle. Interestingly, it doesn’t occur after Lori’s death, contrary to a common meme belief.

The Power of the Internet

As a movie enthusiast, I usually find Daniel Day-Lewis’ acting top-notch, but there’s one particular word in some of his roles that has me chuckling. It’s almost as if the internet has magnified this minor pronunciation quirk, making it hard to ignore. Fans have even collected numerous instances of this, amassing millions of views online.

7 Unlimited Ammo

Multiple Episodes

In the gripping world of “The Walking Dead”, ammunition serves as a vital lifeline for the characters, enabling them to hunt walkers, defend themselves against other survivors, and generally stay alive in this post-apocalyptic landscape. Frequently, the scarcity of bullets is lamented by these characters, and at one juncture, Eugene steps up to manufacture some. Yet, it’s quite ironic that despite the preciousness of each bullet, our heroes seem to fire them off like they’re as abundant as raindrops, missing their mark more often than not without a single reload. This inconsistency might be a plot oversight, but it sure does provide a chuckle or two!

Bad Aim, Good Comedy

During season 8, the unusual aspect of infinite ammunition stood out more prominently – and humorously so – particularly in episode 12 where it seemed like Rick had lost his marksmanship skills. Yet, there’s a scene from season 7 that could arguably be even funnier due to its poor aim depiction.

6 Rosita Shoots at Negan

Season 7, Episode 8 – “Hearts Still Beating”

In the popular series The Walking Dead, Negan is adored by many viewers despite his wicked actions. However, to the other characters, he’s clearly the antagonist who must be defeated. Consequently, when Negan enters Alexandria and slays Spencer, it’s not unexpected that Rosita whips out a gun and attempts to shoot him. What is shocking, and humorously perplexing, is that she inexplicably fails to hit her mark.

Absurdly Bad Shot

It’s nearly unbelievable how Rosita can miss her target even when it’s just a few feet away. What’s even more astounding is that she somehow managed to embed the bullet into Negan’s bat, Lucille. Moments like these often seem funny later on – at the time, though, most viewers weren’t laughing at the absurdity; instead, they were frustrated and may have turned off their TVs in anger. Now, let me tell you…

5 Glenn and the Dumpster

Season 6, Episode 7 – “Heads Up”

As a die-hard film buff, I must confess that from the very instant Glenn graced our screens, he was an instant crowd pleaser. However, comic book aficionados had a hunch that his story wouldn’t end on a high note once Negan made his grand entrance. That’s why the third episode of Season 6, “Thank You,” left us all reeling – it seemed Glenn had met his untimely demise at the hands (or jaws) of the walkers.

Garbage Scene

Glenn managed to squeeze himself beneath a trash bin and fought off numerous zombies until they were diverted by some distraction. Despite the questionable feasibility of the situation, viewers had been eagerly waiting for an explanation for quite some time, and this resolution seemed rather far-fetched. It appears that this was an attempt to make us believe Glenn’s comic book death might not occur in the series. Looking back on it now, it’s hard not to chuckle – but it doesn’t take the cake as the funniest garbage-related scene.

4 Everything with the Scavengers

Multiple Episodes

Initiating their presence in Season 7, episode 9, the unconventional Scavengers led by Jadis made an enigmatic entrance into the series. Their language was terse and awkward, their customs peculiar – such as dwelling within a junkyard. It’s challenging to perceive Jadis and her followers with gravity, even in potentially terrifying scenes like when they deploy a spiked walker (Winslow) to assassinate Rick. Rather than instilling fear, these instances often come across as comedic or farcical.

Garbage Characters

As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I must admit that Jadis is an intriguing character who brings a unique flavor to the series. However, it’s crucial for viewers to understand that she’s not necessarily a positive addition to the storyline. The actress delivers a commendable performance, but her presence along with her followers raises quite a few eyebrows. Questions like, “What led them to adopt this peculiar speech?” and “Why would they choose to reside in a heap of trash?” inevitably come to mind.

In their defense, at least they didn’t get as weird as another group on this list.

3 The Ferals

Season 11, Episode 6 – “On the Inside”

After sprinting through the forest, Connie and Virgil stumble upon what appears to be an abandoned house. However, they swiftly figure out that they’re far from being the only inhabitants, as a band of “wild” humans is planning to devour them. These individuals seem to have evolved into a more animal-like state, moving on all fours and exhibiting cannibalistic tendencies. Despite its terrifying nature, the absurdity of this situation gives the entire incident an even greater comedic feel.

Over the Top

The Ferals will be a controversial addition to this list, as some people found them genuinely scary. Others couldn’t comprehend how people could “go feral,” even in the span of a decade. Like with the Scavengers, the choice to go feral was seemingly that — a choice. The apocalypse is far from easy, but even given these circumstances, reverting to something so primitive is over the top, not to mention unrealistic, and humorously absurd.

2 Rick and Michonne at the Carnival

Season 7, Episode 12 – “Say Yes”

10 Funniest Moments From The Walking Dead10 Funniest Moments From The Walking Dead10 Funniest Moments From The Walking Dead

In “Say Yes” from season 7, Rick and Michonne accidentally discover a carnival during their search for weapons for the Scavengers. Amidst the festivities, they enjoy carnival games, take in the sights, and seemingly forget about the ongoing apocalypse. Although such moments of relaxation are appealing, it’s clearly not the right moment or setting, as was made clear when the zombies attacked suddenly, putting Rick’s life at grave risk.

It’s All Fun and Games Until…

Every carnival-related scene in the show is laughable, primarily due to their over-the-top silliness. It’s delightful watching Rick and Michonne enjoy themselves, but considering they’re on their seventh season, you’d think someone would have questioned the wisdom of this situation. The episode also includes a notoriously cheesy and amusing CGI deer.

1 Negan, Generally

Multiple Episodes

Previously stated, Negan is a beloved character on the show, boasting several captivating scenes. While many of these scenes are intentionally humorous, there are instances that turn out amusing unexpectedly. Furthermore, some of these unintentional funny moments can be funnier or humorously different than what the actor and director might have planned.

Negan Just Being Negan

From the strange zoom-out choice in “Service” to his line about spaghetti in “Hearts Still Beating,” it’s sometimes hard to tell when the audience is meant to laugh at a scene and when Negan’s just being… Negan. His over-the-top expressions and delivery mean that nearly every line is funny. Unlike most other items on this list, these (un)intentional moments don’t distract from the show, but rather, give viewers a reason to continue watching.
