As a film enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in the cinematic universe, I must say that if you’re a fan of the time-loop thriller “Edge of Tomorrow,” you’ll find solace and excitement in these three movies that share similar themes of humanity versus otherworldly adversaries.
Although boasting a captivating plotline and the star talent of Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, director Doug Liman’s Edge of Tomorrow initially failed to make an immediate impact upon its 2014 release. However, the tale of a soldier trapped in a time loop during a war against alien invaders has since been recognized as one of the top sci-fi films from that era.
Even though Edge of Tomorrow 2 hasn’t shown any signs of release yet, given its current status as one of Netflix’s top-viewed great films, it seems we’ll have to be patient for quite some time. However, there are numerous other enjoyable movies with similar themes that you can stream right now, which may help make the wait a bit more bearable.
Groundhog Day (1993)
In a comical turn, a self-centered weatherman (portrayed by Bill Murray) gets stuck re-living the same day, February 2nd, repeatedly, as he reports live from Punxsutawney’s yearly groundhog event.
If you’re a fan of the time-loop concept as seen in “Edge of Tomorrow”, you might find another compelling watch in the classic film “Groundhog Day”. Directed by Harold Ramis, this movie is frequently mentioned alongside Edge of Tomorrow in discussions about time loop movies, though it offers a more humorous take on the theme.

Happy Death Day (2017)
As a thrilled spectator, I find myself identifying with a self-centered university student, portrayed by the talented Jessica Rothe. This character is compelled to reenact her grisly demise repeatedly, in an attempt to unmask the enigmatic figure who keeps attempting to take her life.
If you enjoy the concept of time loops from Edge of Tomorrow, you might find the horror-comedy film “Happy Death Day” by writer and director Christopher Landon particularly engaging. Notably, this movie was so well-received that it led to a sequel, “Happy Death 2U,” just two years after its release.
As a fan, I’d recommend catching “Happy Death Day” on Peacock!
Boss Level (2020)
Previously elite operative Ray Pulver, played by Frank Grillo, strives to unravel the enigma surrounding his death, all while experiencing a bizarre phenomenon of reliving the same fateful day repeatedly.
If you enjoy the unique blend of action and humor in Edge of Tomorrow, then you might find Joe Carnahan’s film, Boss Level, equally appealing. Starring Naomi Watts and Mel Gibson, this movie offers a similar concept where the protagonist experiences time loops.

Tenet (2020)
In the story, John David Washington plays a CIA operative without a named character, who undergoes training to master a unique skill of manipulating time. This extraordinary talent enables him to accomplish a vital task on behalf of a secretive agency.
If you’re a fan of Edge of Tomorrow, you might find Tenet, another intriguing sci-fi thriller by writer and director Christopher Nolan, equally captivating. It offers an engaging exploration of the concept of time loops (or “time inversion”).

Source Code (2011)
In a movie scenario, an Army captain (portrayed by Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal) swiftly takes over the identity of a train traveler, mere moments before a devastating explosion orchestrated by terrorists, with the aim of unmasking the perpetrator.
If you’re fond of the intricate plot twists in Edge of Tomorrow, you might enjoy Director Duncan Jones’ film, Source Code, which offers a captivating narrative on a train where the main character is compelled to re-live the same moment over and over again with the aim of accomplishing a significant mission.

Run Lola Run (1998)
A collection of twenty-minute long movies, all centered around the character Lola (played by Franka Potente), who is desperate to find a large amount of money in order to rescue her boyfriend. Each movie presents a unique turn of events.
If you’re an enthusiast of “Edge of Tomorrow”, you might appreciate watching “Run Lola Run“, which, while not strictly a time loop movie, shares similarities by following the journey of its main character across various attempts. It can be considered more of a multiverse action thriller.

The Tomorrow War (2021)
In a new role, Chris Pratt portrays a character who was previously a Green Beret and a family man living in current times. He is unexpectedly called upon to journey through time to the year 2051, where he links up with a resistance group battling against an evil extraterrestrial force that has overtaken Earth.
If you’re an Edge of Tomorrow fan, you might really enjoy The Tomorrow War as well! Directed by Chris McKay, this film is not about a time loop but rather time travel, and it shares with Edge of Tomorrow the setting of a war for humanity in the future.

War Of The Worlds (2005)
In a more relaxed rewording, we have a former dockhand, portrayed by Tom Cruise, battling to shield his offspring – played by Justin Chatwin and Dakota Fanning – as Earth faces an alien onslaught of extraterrestrial beings.
If you’re a fan of Edge of Tomorrow, here’s a movie you might enjoy: In it, Tom Cruise’s character, Will Cage, initially lacks bravery against alien invaders, mirroring his timid persona in director Steven Spielberg’s interpretation of H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds. However, as Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt) trains him, he transforms into a formidable warrior.

Independence Day (1996)
Mankind unites to protect our home, Earth, from oppressive extraterrestrial intruders who arrived in massive spaceships.
Watching Edge of Tomorrow is highly recommended if you are a fan of the original, as it could have easily become similar to Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day without Doug Liman’s insistence on maintaining the time loop concept. In other words, this movie offers something different from typical alien invasion thrillers, which is why fans will enjoy it.

Aliens (1986)
Ellen Ripley, the lone survivor after a horrific alien attack, embarks on a new journey to reestablish communication with a distant colony world, but instead encounters yet more terrifying creatures.
If you’re a fan of the Edge of Tomorrow, here’s a movie you shouldn’t miss: If someone asks you what the most remarkable or top-notch human versus alien film is, they might mention James Cameron’s second part of the Alien series as their answer. This movie features our protagonist battling the enemy in an exo-suit, similar to Will and Rita from your favorite movie.
