After establishing that Dave Bautista has made a successful transition from wrestling to acting and showcasing his versatility through roles in popular films like Guardians of the Galaxy, Dune, Knock at the Cabin, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, and In the Lost Lands, it is intriguing to ponder which upcoming project he might take on next.
Admittedly, some of the movies and TV shows on this list are in production limbo, so there’s a chance they’ll continue to be delayed or even outright canceled. However, we’re staying optimistic that they’ll eventually make their way to the big screen. After all, Bautista consistently gives a knockout performance in everything he’s in, and more films and shows starring him can only be a good thing.

‘Aang: The Last Airbender’
Set to premiere in 2026, Aang: The Last Airbender follows the original Avatar characters into young adulthood. An animated film, it would be the first in a trilogy exploring the gang’s continued attempts to bring balance to the world. Excitingly, the film’s executive producers are series creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, and with Bautista set to join the voice cast, all signs are pointing to something special.
An Unknown Antagonist
As of now, all we know of Bautista’s role is that he’s going to play an antagonist. The Avatar series has featured some amazing villains (and some equally fantastic villain redemption arcs). Given Bautista’s acting range and desire to play diverse characters, we don’t doubt that he’s going to be a welcome addition to the Avatar universe.

‘Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas’
In the film “Army of the Dead,” Dave Bautista plays the character Scott Ward, a mercenary who finds himself with a challenging mission: robbing a casino that’s enclosed by zombies. The success of this movie led to the creation of another titled “Army of Thieves,” and it was announced later that “Planet of the Dead” would follow suit. Interestingly, an anime prequel is being developed, and Dave Bautista will return to reprise his role in it as well.
An Undead Animation
Unfortunately, the latest news about Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas isn’t great. Apparently, the show ran into technical issues, and Netflix pulled the plug. However, everything outside of the animation was already completed, so there’s still reason to hope the anime will be revived, especially given how drastically it was set to change the franchise.

‘Trap House’
The action thriller Trap House stars Dave Bautista as an undercover DEA agent. When his teenage children attempt to use his resources and intel to rob a cartel, he springs into action with his partner to stop them. Part action movie, part thriller, the film is just as much about family as it is about the seedy world of crime.
Cast and Filming Updates
At this point in time, the specific functions of “Trap House” are largely undefined, but the ensemble cast is substantial and features Jack Champion, Sophia Lillis, Cannavale, and Kate del Castillo, among others. As of May 2024, production on “Trap House” has wrapped up, and we eagerly await updates regarding its release date.

‘Afterburn’
Based on a comic series, Afterburn takes place 10 years after a solar flare destroys Earth’s technology. The flare has caused various valuables to go missing, so wealthy clients hire ex-soldier Jake (Bautista) to help recover them. Teaming up with freedom fighter Drea (Olga Kurylenko), he embarks on a quest to locate the Mona Lisa before a warlord finds it first.
A Difficult Journey
Development for Afterburn originally started in 2018, with Gerard Butler set to star and Tommy Wirkola to direct. After the two left the project, it was briefly put on pause before resuming in 2024, at which point Dave Bautista and Samuel L. Jackson joined as the movie’s leads and J.J. Perry was announced as the new director. Filming finished later that year, and while the release window has yet to be shared, we have a feeling Afterburn will be more than worth the wait.

‘Grendel’
As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that in 2024, Jeff Bridges will step into the skin of the titular character in a live-action adaptation of John Gardner’s “Grendel.” But
Philosophical and Fantastical
Director Robert D. Krzykowski plans to take Grendel in an even darker and more philosophical direction than the book. Given that the book was already plenty dark, we’re excited to see how both Bridges and Bautista tackle the adaptation.

‘Universe’s Most Wanted’
Directed by Brad Peyton, Universe’s Most Wanted takes place in a small town after the universe’s most-wanted criminals crash their spaceship. A sheriff and his son are soon enlisted to help an intergalactic peacekeeper (Bautista) prevent the criminals from leaving. But if they fail, it could mean the end of the world, or worse.
Wanted, but Maybe Not in the Works
Currently, there’s conflicting information about whether Universe’s Most Wanted is still in production. As of 2023, there were reports that no one was still attached to the project and that it was indefinitely on pause. However, we’re still holding out hope for another space-themed Bautista film.
4
‘Alpha Gang’
Starring Cate Blanchett as Alpha One, the upcoming movie Alpha Gang features a group of alien invaders who disguise themselves as a ’50s bikers gang in order to infiltrate and take over Earth. Unfortunately, they’re not prepared for human emotions, and if they can’t learn to reign theirs in, their entire mission might be compromised.
Not Reigning in Our Excitement
The movie Alpha Gang is set to begin filming in the current year, featuring an impressive cast of Dave Bautista, Steven Yeun, Zoë Kravitz, and Channing Tatum. Details about its release date are still uncertain, but with this talented ensemble, it’s certain to pack a powerful emotional punch.
3
‘The Wrecking Crew’
Written by Jonathan Tropper and directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, the upcoming buddy cop film The Wrecking Crew stars Bautista as a Navy SEAL and Jason Momoa as his half-brother cop. After learning that their father has been murdered, the oddball pair must join together to confront what happened not just to their father, but also their own relationship. Simultaneously, they must face off against a fiersome antagonist played by Claes Bang.
A Dynamite Crew
Bautista was the one who originally proposed working with Momoa on the film, which makes us even more excited for its release. As of now, more news about the cast has been released, and it’s expected that The Wrecking Crew will come out sometime later this year.
2
‘Dreadnought’
The SciFi thriller Dreadnought focuses on a widowed father, Max (Bautista) who must protect his daughter, Greta, from alien forces. The Earth is ravaged by a plague that has already killed Max’s wife, and now, Greta is sick as well, and the aliens want her body for unknown purposes. But Max isn’t going to give up his daughter without a fight, even if it means having to make a terrible decision.
Action and Depth
Bautista has already proven himself as one of today’s most exciting action stars. We don’t doubt that Dreadnought will give him another opportunity to show off his talents in the genre while also adding depth and nuance to the performance.

Untitled FBI Wedding Comedy With Anne Hathaway
Bautista and Hathaway are set to star in an unnamed project about two undercover FBI agents who are forced to pretend they’re a couple in order to infiltrate a criminal gang. Interestingly, the movie is based on a real story in which two FBI agents faked a wedding in order to trap and arrest crime bosses. While we’re not sure how closely the movie will follow this story, we do know that Bautista and Hathaway will start the movie at each other’s throats but, over time, learn to respect and care for each other.
An Odd Couple Comedy Dream Team
Announced toward the end of 2024, very little is yet known about this project. However, given Bautista’s desire to play more romantic leads and both his and Hathaway’s exceptional comedic timing, we have high hopes that, whatever direction the movie chooses, it’s going to be hilarious.
