13 Adipurush dialogues that were more colorful than the rainbow

As a lifelong devotee of Indian mythology and a die-hard fan of epic tales like Ramayana, I was eagerly awaiting the release of Adipurush. Having grown up with various adaptations of Valmiki’s masterpiece, I was excited to see how director Om Raut would modernize this timeless story. Alas, my expectations were not met, and I found myself cringing at the poorly written dialogues and subpar VFX in this 2023 film.

Over the years, we’ve become familiar with numerous adaptations of the ancient Indian epic, Ramayana. In 2023, filmmaker Om Raut released a contemporary take on this story through his film, Adipurush. Featuring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan, this 2023 mythological action drama received negative feedback for its awkward dialogue in Adipurush and poor visual effects (VFX).

Initially, dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir stood by his script, but later acknowledged his error. Simultaneously, the production team adjusted certain dialogues following intense criticism from viewers. For instance, the line “Kapda tere baap ka” was rephrased to “kapda teri Lanka ka.” The phrase “Hum unki lanka laga denge” was revised to “Hum unki Lanka mein aag laga denge.”

13 Adipurush dialogues from Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan’s film

1. “Kapda teri Lanka ka, tel teri Lanka ka, aag bhi tere Lanka ki, jalega bhi teri Lanka hi.”

In the story, it was Devdатта Нagе who portrayed the character of Bajrang, after Indrajit, also known as Meghanada, suffered burnt tail in the kingdom of Lankesh. Vatsal Sheth enacted the role of Indrajit.

2. “Janki me mere pran baste hain aur maryada mujhe apne prano se bhi adhik priye hai.”

In a scene, Prabhas as Raghava mouthed this dialogue about Kriti Sanon’s character, Janaki.

3. “Mere ek sapole ne tumhare iss sheshnaag ko samapt kar diya hai.”

In the revised dialogue, Indrajit says, “One of my arrows has extended your serpentine form, Shesh.”

4. “Jo hamari behenon ko haath lagayenge hum unki Lanka mein aag laga denge.”

In simpler terms, the original sentence could be rephrased as “We will take our sisters with us and make them believe we are going to Sri Lanka.”

5. “Tum andar kaise ghuse? Tum jaante bhi ho kaun hoon main.”

In this captivating moment, I’ve stepped into the garden that’s like a niece to me, Lanka. There, I found myself in the presence of my beloved, Janaki. However, just as I was about to express my long-held feelings, Indrajit burst onto the scene and let loose with a harsh rebuke at me, saying something along the lines of “Is this your aunt’s garden where you come to feast on the breeze?”

6. “Aap Ayodhya ke Yuvraaj hain, ek sanket karenge toh saari sena aapke saath ladegi.”

In a scene, Shesh tells his brother, Raghava, that he can give a signal and the whole ‘vaanar sena’ will support him in fighting with the demon king, Raavan.

7. “Hum janm se nahin karm se chhote ya bade hote hain.”

In this particular conversation, Raghava encounters Sabari, who queries him on why he bowed to her traditionally.

8. “Raghava me mujhe paane ke liye Shivdhanush toda tha, ab unhe Raavan ka ghamand todna hoga.”

“Reminiscing on the moment when my heart was captured by none other than Raghava, the one who conquered Lord Shiva’s divine bow, I can’t help but feel a renewed sense of awe and admiration.”

9. “Brahmand mein jo bhi paane laayak hai tu paa chuka hai phir bhi tu rakshas hi hai. Lakshmi ko paale Narayan ho jaega.”

In the role of Lankesh (or Ravana), portrayed by Saif Ali Khan, spoke these words as he tapped into his formidable strength.

10. “Aa raha hoon main nyaay ke do pairon se anyaay ke dus sarr kuchalne. Aa raha hoon adharm ka vidhwans karne.”

In the movie, Prabhas portrayed Raghava, delivering a strong speech where he dared Lankesh to fight against him in battle.

11. “Aap apne kaal ke liye kaaleen bicha rahe hain.”

In that electrifying moment, I, a fervent admirer, found myself speaking as none other than Siddhanth Karnik, portraying the character of Vibishana, Lankesh’s brother. This was in a captivating scene shared with the illustrious Saif Ali Khan.

12. “Jali na? Abhi toh aur jalegi, jiski jalti hai wahi jaanta hai.”

This cringe-worthy dialogue was delivered by Indrajit during Bajrang’s tail-burning incident.

13. “Aaj mere liye mat ladna us din ke liye ladna jab itihaas mein tumhara naam padhkar samman se sarr jhukh jaenge. Ladoge? Toh aage badho aur gaad do ahankaar ki chaati mein Vijay ka bhagwa dhwaj.”

In a particular moment, the character named Prabha (portraying Raghava) addresses his troops, inspiring them to triumph in their battle against Lankesh.

In a previous conversation with Aaj Tak, Manoj Muntashir admitted that defending his work on Adipurush was actually a significant error. Manoj clarified that he is not someone who feels insecure about his writing abilities and therefore, he should not have felt the need to defend them. He considered this incident as a valuable lesson for him.

In 2023, the screenplay for the movie Adipurush was written by Director Om Raut. The roles were distributed with Prabhas portraying Lord Rama, Kriti Sanon taking on the character of Sita Maa, Sunny Singh essayed Lord Lakshmana, and Saif Ali Khan assumed the role of the villainous demon king, Ravana.

Adipurush made its theater debut on June 16, 2023, offering audiences a choice between Hindi, Telugu, and other regional languages such as Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. It initially premiered on Netflix in August of the previous year. Now, you can also catch it on Amazon Prime Video. If you’re interested in Om Raut’s directorial work, remember to add it to your watchlist.
