The upcoming film adaptation of the Ramayana is one of the highly anticipated movies in Indian cinema. Even before its official announcement, this epic mythology drama had already been a topic of conversation among movie enthusiasts. Now, we’re excited to share with you the complete list of the confirmed star-studded cast for Ramayana, along with brief details on who will be portraying which characters.
Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash, and Sunny Deol set to headline the epic saga
In the forthcoming grand movie spectacle, Ranbir Kapoor has been confirmed to play Lord Rama, while Sai Pallavi is expected to portray Mata Sita. This will be their initial collaboration in a film. A while back, behind-the-scenes photos from the filming site were shared on social media platforms.
This project stands out as an extraordinary work due to the presence of popular Indian actor Yash, portraying the character of the demon king Ravana. Alongside him, Sunny Deol is involved in the production, taking on the role of Lord Hanuman. Rumors suggest that following the release of this two-part epic tale, a separate film focusing on Lord Hanuman may be developed.
Ramayana stars mega-ensemble with Arun Govil, Amitabh Bachchan, Kajal Aggarwal, and Rakul Preet playing key roles
In addition, Arun Govil plays King Dasrath, Indira Krishnan portrays Mata Kaushalya, and Lara Dutta is cast as Kaikeyi in the Ramayana. Sheeba Chaddha, known for films like Baby John and Doctor G, takes on a significant role as Manthra. Furthermore, Manthra’s role will be played by South diva Kajal Aggarwal, who is set to portray Mandodari, the wife of Ravana. Rakul Preet Singh has been chosen to play Shurpanakha, while her husband Vidyutjiva will be played by Vivek Oberoi in this production.
In the upcoming series, Ravi Dubey and Adinath Kothare will portray the roles of Lakshman and Bharat, respectively – brothers to Lord Rama. It’s rumored that Amitabh Bachchan will make a special appearance as Jatayu, while Kunal Kapoor has officially been cast as Indradeva.
For those not familiar, the epic tale of Ramayana is set to hit the big screen in two parts. The initial segment will premiere during Diwali in 2026. Notably, renowned Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman are collaborating on the music and background score for this production.
Funded by Yash and Namit Malhotra, Ramayana Part One stands as India’s most expensive film yet, boasting a budget approximated at USD 100 million (equivalent to Rs 835 crore). The creators are currently negotiating with Hollywood studio Warner Bros for global distribution rights.
