As a dedicated gamer and sneakerhead with a penchant for unique collaborations, I’ve had the pleasure of discovering the latest drop from 18 East and Goods & Services – the limited-edition mule collaboration. Having grown up in New York City, I’ve always admired 18 East’s commitment to Chinatown culture and creativity. However, their recent foray into the West Coast scene with a pop-up in Venice, California has piqued my interest even more.

At its New York City studio in Chinatown, 18 East maintains strong foundations. However, this season, it’s embracing the West Coast vibe with a “Summer Pop-up” in Venice, California, which runs until August. As part of this limited-time venture, 18 East has teamed up with Goods & Services from Los Angeles to create an exclusive mule. This new design is a variation of an April introduction and is entirely made in LA. The mule showcases a suede upper adorned with lambskin lining, a removable shroud, a vegetable-tanned leather strap featuring an aluminum buckle, and a footbed crafted from tumbled natural leather, bearing the co-branded logos of 18 East and Goods & Services.
I’m thrilled about the design of this shoe from Goods & Services, which features a Sphike midsole and outsole by Vibram. This setup was originally developed for trail running, providing both lightweight support and robust all-weather traction. What sets it apart, though, is its durability and repairability. Just like other creations from Goods & Services, this shoe can be fully repaired, resoled, and customized using the various cobbling options available on their webstore. This collaboration between Goods & Services and 18 East marks the second footwear project they’ve undertaken together. In 2023, they teamed up to create a co-branded version of Goods & Services’ first original mule design, complete with a forest green strap.
