Reflecting on the 18th anniversary of the iconic film Vivah, I find myself reminiscing about the memories shared with the talented cast and crew during those magical days in Almora. As Samir Soni so vividly recounted, the pranks Shahid Kapoor played were legendary! The time he painted his face white and wore a bedsheet to scare everyone still sends shivers down my spine.
18 years ago, on November 10, 2024, Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao’s beloved movie Vivah marks its anniversary. Directed by Sooraj Barjatya, this film has stood the test of time due to its depiction of traditional Indian ideals, love, and loyalty. Remarkably, Shahid resembles his on-screen persona in real life as well. On this memorable day, let’s reminisce about moments from the set when his co-star Samir Soni recounted an amusing story about a time when Kapoor put on white face paint and wore a white bedsheet to scare him.
During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Samir Soni reminisced, “Shahid is a dear friend of mine whom I adore, but he could be quite mischievous! One evening while we were both stationed in Almora, he played a prank on me. I remember it was late at night when there was a knock at the door. Our home was surrounded by a forest.
He continued, ‘I opened the door and I saw a strange creature in white standing in front of me. I got spooked. Then I learned that Shahid Kapoor got his make-up man paint his face white and he wore a white bedsheet. He was going around and scaring everyone.”
He further pointed out that he viewed Shahid Kapoor as more like a younger sibling, highlighting the bond of friendship they nurtured.
Apart from mentioning that she was delightful, he reminisced about their shared moments in Nainital during film shoots. Each day’s work concluded, they – himself, Shahid, Amrita Rao, Lata, and Seema Biswas – frequently enjoyed evening strolls together, a precious memory he held dear.
In the meantime, Vivah is famed for the straightforward yet impactful directing of Sooraj Barjatya, its powerful message, heartwarming scenes, timeless tunes, and compelling acting.
In a beautiful portrayal reminiscent of the love story between Prem and Poonam, Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao’s on-screen union captivated viewers, earning it a place among the most beloved films during its era. Supporting cast included acting greats like Anupam Kher, Alok Nath, and Amrita Prakash, to name a few.
Through moving portrayals by Shahid and Amrita, the film Vivah has left an indelible mark on Indian cinema. Known for its straightforwardness, deep emotional resonance, and timeless soundtrack, this film remains cherished by fans due to its enduring appeal.
