As a die-hard fan who has survived countless rewatches of the original “28 Days Later”, I am beyond thrilled to witness the rebirth of this groundbreaking zombie apocalypse trilogy! The fact that Sony Pictures is kicking off the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend with the release of “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” is nothing short of a dream come true.
Sony Pictures isn’t wasting any time.
On Thursday, it was revealed that the studio will debut “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” in cinemas on January 16, 2026, marking the start of the extended Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend. This movie is the second part of Danny Boyle and Alex Garland’s planned trilogy set during a zombie apocalypse.
Recently, Sony unveiled a teaser for their upcoming movie titled 28 Years Later, the long-anticipated sequel to the hit film 28 Days Later. This eagerly awaited production is slated for release on June 20, 2025. Danny Boyle, who directed the original movie released by 20th Century Fox in 2002, is at the helm again.
On this occasion, Nia DaCosta takes on the directorial role, while Boyle and Garland collaborate again for scriptwriting. They filmed the upcoming pair of movies consecutively.
28 Years Later finds me returning to the world of the original 2002 film, this time as a fellow survivor among an incredible ensemble cast. Joining me on this journey are Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Erin Kellyman, and Edvin Ryding.
Boyle, Garland, and Andrew Macdonald, Peter Rice, and Bernard Bellew are all collaborating on the movie production process. Meanwhile, Murphy will serve as the film’s executive producer.
