3 Ways The Wheel Of Time Has Set Up Season 4’s Story

Warning: Spoilers for The Wheel of Time season 3, episode 8

It appears that “The Fires of Heaven” is strongly suggested to be the main influence for the fourth season of “The Wheel of Time”. This fifth book in Robert Jordan’s series, “The Wheel of Time”, follows “The Shadow Rising”, which has recently been adapted into a live-action series by Prime Video. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean it will be the next book portrayed in sequence. It’s important to remember that the show skipped over book 3, “The Dragon Reborn”, moving directly from the second book, “The Great Hunt”, to the fourth installment.

Given that we’re dealing with approximately 14 books and an adaptation spanning potentially fewer than eight seasons, it can be challenging to foresee which books will receive a full season, which might not get produced at all, and which could merge with others. Based on current indications, it seems that the fourth season of “The Wheel of Time” may blend narratives from multiple books like “Towers of Midnight,” “The Dragon Reborn,” and “Lords of Chaos.” However, it’s worth noting that “The Fires of Heaven” seems to have the most significant impact on the development of this season.

3. Couladin Left With The Shaido

Couladin May Be A Secondary Antagonist In Season 4

In the upcoming season 4, events from “The Fires of Heaven” are expected to unfold as Couladin and his Shaido allies part ways with Alcar Dal, resisting Rand al’Thor’s claim as Car’a’carn. In the original storyline, Couladin led the Shaido across the Dragonwall towards Cairhein, aiming to seize control. To counter this threat, Rand assembled his new armies from the Aiel Waste and headed for Cairhein to confront the Shaido. However, contrary to expectations, the climactic battle with the Shaido didn’t feature a direct duel between Rand and Couladin. Instead, it was Mat who engaged in a deadly duel against Couladin, ultimately slaying him. As a result, Cairhein came under Rand’s authority.

In line with “The Fires of Heaven,” it appears that the TV portrayals of Rand and Couladin are on a destructive path towards each other. The climax of season 3 for “The Wheel of Time” may not be the end of Couladin’s story, as he is expected to channel his anger against a “Wetlander” city. Given that Cairhein has been established as a significant location in the series so far, it could serve as Couladin’s target for retribution.

2. Rand Is On Track To Fight Rahvin Next

Rahvin Is Likely To Be One Of Season 4’s Main Villains

It’s intriguing that the upcoming season will pit not just one, but two main adversaries from “The Fires of Heaven” against Rand. In the book, he initially faced off against Couladin before traveling to Caemlyn for a climactic confrontation with Rahvin, who was among the 13 Forsaken in “The Wheel of Time.” This battle with Rahvin ensued as a consequence of his seizure of Queen Morgase Trakand’s throne, who was believed to be deceased following her deposition.

Many events from season 3 suggest that we may see a repetition of these occurrences shortly. Firstly, it has been revealed that Rahvin, disguised as “Lord Gaebril“, is mirroring his character from the books by controlling Morgase and amassing power in Andor through Compulsion. Additionally, it appears that Rahvin intends to confront Rand, with Lanfear hinting at an encounter between them at the Stone of Tear. If this trap is set, it might lead to a showdown between Rand and Rahvin in Caemlyn as the climax of season 4.

1. Moghedien Is On The Loose, With Part Of The Domination Bands

Moghedien Will Probably Be Nynaeve’s Next Opponent

In the novels, “The Shadow Rising” and “The Fires of Heaven,” the story involving Elayne and Nynaeve can essentially be seen as two parts. In “The Shadow Rising,” their journey took them to Tanchico in pursuit of the Black Ajah. There, they encountered Moghedien and engaged in a confrontation over the Domination Bands, also known as male a’dam. This conflict persisted into “The Fires of Heaven,” where Nynaeve and Elayne used Tel’aran’rhiod, or the World of Dreams, to track down Moghedien.

In the fourth season of “The Wheel of Time,” it’s highly likely that Nynaeve will embark on a dangerous path, given that she has resolved her channeling block and still has unresolved issues with Liandrin. The latter, allied with Moghedien who possesses a part of the Domination Bands, seems to be one of the Forsaken that Nynaeve and her companions will confront when the series resumes. Elayne, on the other hand, might reconsider her journey due to Thom Merrilin’s warning about Rahvin and the knowledge that her mother is in danger.
