4 Reasons Why I'm More Pumped Than Ever For Gladiator II After Watching That Trailer

As a history enthusiast who has spent countless hours delving into the annals of ancient Rome and its emperors, I was immediately intrigued by the announcement of “Gladiator II” and the fact that it seems to be set during a turbulent time in Roman history. Having studied the lives of Caracalla and Geta under the tutelage of esteemed professors at the University of Rome, I find myself eagerly anticipating this new cinematic retelling of their story.

Are you not entertained by the Gladiator II trailer?!

It seems contrary to popular opinion, as some individuals have expressed dissatisfaction and left negative reviews recently. This leaves me puzzled, though. Could it be that we watched different trailers or perhaps have contrasting perspectives? I personally find Gladiator II to be impressive.

While I personally don’t hold “Gladiator” in high regard compared to other Best Picture Oscar winners, I must admit that the trailer for “Gladiator II” has successfully ignited my excitement. Here are the reasons why:

This Gladiator Looks Much More Like An Action Movie Than The First One

As a dedicated movie buff and action film enthusiast with years of experience under my belt, I’ve been looking forward to the new releases of 2024 with great anticipation. However, after hours of researching and going through the list of upcoming movies, I must admit that I’m feeling a tad disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, there are some titles that pique my interest, but compared to the action-packed masterpieces we witnessed in 2023, it seems like a less impressive year for this genre. The bar was set incredibly high last year, and unfortunately, it looks like 2024 might not be able to reach those heights. It’s a bitter pill to swallow, but I can only give my honest opinion based on the information available to me at the moment.

After watching the trailer for “Gladiator II,” my pulse quickened. Many people hold the original “Gladiator” in high regard as an action masterpiece. Yet, I’ve always felt indifferent to it, finding its pace rather sluggish. Contrarily, I’ve found that the action sequences on their own can be overwhelmingly rapid – so fast that details become blurred for me.

As someone who has struggled to keep up with fast-paced action sequences in movies, I can relate to the experience of watching a historical drama like “Gladiator” that features an undefeated gladiator battling tigers. While there are moments of clarity and beauty in these scenes, for me they often move too quickly, leaving my eyes and mind scrambling to make sense of what I’m seeing.

The trailer for Gladiator II, from what I’ve seen, seems to be packed with more action sequences than its predecessor. In the coming paragraphs, I’ll dive deeper into what makes this sequel appear so thrilling. However, based on the sneak peek alone, it seems that this film will deliver a more action-heavy experience, which I’m genuinely excited about.

It Also Looks So Much More Epic Than The Original

In our article about Gladiator II, we explored the exciting water battles and the thrilling scene of a man battling atop a rhino, as shown in the trailer. Wow, could this film get any more spectacular?

The majority of fights in the movie unfolded within the Colosseum, effectively highlighting its central gladiatorial theme.

In the sequel to this film, set several years later, the action appears to be escalated significantly, featuring grand-scale battles previously unexplored in the initial production. Personally, I’m thrilled about it. I’m a fan of Ridley Scott’s large-scale battle scenes, as showcased in “Kingdom of Heaven,” and this upcoming movie seems to be following suit.

Based on my observation of Fred Hechinger as Caracalla and Joseph Quinn as Geta in this film, it seems that the Roman Empire during their reign was far from thriving. Consequently, I’m eagerly anticipating the intriguing historical narrative this movie promises to deliver, and I can hardly wait to witness its captivating portrayal.

Denzel Washington Is In Full Swagger Mode

Many viewers have expressed displeasure towards the use of “No Church in the Wild” by Jay-Z and Kanye West in the new trailer. One person even chose to replace it with a song from the original film. I can understand why some people might find this unexpected change unsettling, and I share their sentiment.

Despite some criticisms about Denzel Washington’s role in the trailer, I firmly believe that he brings depth and excellence to any story he’s a part of. In other words, his ability to adapt and excel in various roles is unquestionable.

In truth, I was taken aback when Denzel Washington was announced as part of Ridley Scott’s upcoming film in 2023. Initially, I questioned his role and harbored concerns that he might be portraying a slave character, which wasn’t an outcome I welcomed. However, upon seeing him exude confidence and charisma in the recent trailer, a sense of excitement replaced my apprehension.

As someone who has always been captivated by historical dramas, I must admit that my initial reaction to Denzel Washington portraying George Washington in “The Little Things” was met with a mix of excitement and skepticism. The idea of seeing such a modern figure transplanted into the past seemed historically inaccurate at first, but as a viewer who values exceptional acting above all else, I was willing to overlook this for the sake of Denzel Washington’s performance.

I Also Love Ridley Scott’s Historical Films, And This One Actually Looks Like A Fun One

I strongly prefer Ridley Scott’s historical films over his science fiction ones. Admittedly, Gladiator isn’t my favorite of his works, but I do appreciate his other historical productions such as The Duellists, Kingdom of Heaven, and the underrated The Last Duel.

Despite my great admiration for Ridley Scott’s historical films, including “Exodus: Gods and Kings,” I must acknowledge that some of them can be quite sluggish in pace. (Also applicable to the classic “Gladiator”)

As a long-time fan of Ridley Scott’s historical dramas, I am genuinely excited about the upcoming release of “Gladiator II.” Based on the trailer, this film seems poised to deliver all the thrilling action and captivating storytelling that I have come to expect from the director.

As someone who has spent years analyzing trailers for various forms of media, I must admit that I was initially taken aback by the unusual song selection in the recent trailer for “The Peripheral.” However, upon further reflection, I’ve come to appreciate how perfectly it fits with the overall tone and atmosphere of the preview. The people who edited the trailer truly outdid themselves in creating a sense of intrigue and excitement that doesn’t feel as heavy and somber as the original source material. And let me tell you, Joseph Quinn’s wild performance in the clips only adds to my anticipation. I can’t wait to see how this unique blend of elements comes together in the show itself.
