Six years ago, when Stree first graced our screens, it was like a breath of fresh air in the genre. And who could forget the charming Rajkummar Rao casually revealing that he was the one who suggested the title? Talk about being part of the creative process!
The latest film, Stree 2 with actors Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, is generating quite a buzz at cinemas right now. This movie is a follow-up to the 2018 horror comedy Stree, which marks its fourth anniversary on August 31, 2024. On this memorable day, let’s look back at the time when Rajkummar Rao shared that he was the one who proposed the title for the movie.
In an interview with PTI, actor Rajkummar Rao mentioned that he suggested the title “Stree” for the movie during a conversation with directors Raj and DK. Originally, the film had a different title, but Rajkummar proposed changing it to “Stree.” He found the word appealing and ended up making the decision about the movie’s title.
Today, Maddock Films’ official Instagram account commemorated the six-year anniversary of the movie Stree. They shared a video featuring memorable scenes from the film, and their caption read, “6 years ago, we encountered #Stree who can do anything, and we’ve adored her ever since. Happy 6th Anniversary to Stree!”

The movie titled “Stree” features key performances from Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana, and Pankaj Tripathi. Directed by Amar Kaushik, it is produced by Dinesh Vijan and Raj & DK. Set in the eerie town of Chanderi, where the ghostly Stree takes men away at night, the story follows Vicky, played by Rajkummar Rao, who encounters a mysterious girl (Shraddha Kapoor) and with his friends, they work together to rescue their hometown.
In the initial segment, tunes such as Milegi Milegi, Kamariya, and more garnered significant popularity among the listeners.
In cinemas starting August 15, 2024, you’ll find Stree 2 – a continuation of the original story. This time around, it introduces a new antagonist named Sarkata. The principal cast from the previous movie returns for this installment within the Maddock Supernatural Universe. Additionally, there are special appearances by Varun Dhawan, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Akshay Kumar in this film.
