7 Arrowverse Heroes Join DCU Reboot!

In the first chapter of James Gunn’s DC Universe (DCU), titled “Gods and Monsters,” it has been verified that at least eight DC characters will make their debut as alternate versions, having previously appeared in The CW’s Arrowverse. For more than a decade, the Arrowverse served as the small-screen representation of DC, establishing a shared universe around Stephen Amell’s Green Arrow, Grant Gustin’s Flash, and Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl.

In simpler terms, the Arrowverse, a collection of popular TV shows, had many memorable instances, including massive crossover episodes like the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” saga. This tale even featured a guest appearance from Ezra Miller’s Flash, who appears in the DC Extended Universe. Following the conclusion of the Arrowverse with “Superman & Lois” in 2024, a new beginning led by James Gunn and Peter Safran is on the horizon. This new phase started with “Creature Commandos” and will continue with the David Corenswet-led “Superman” film.

Every Arrowverse Hero Reimagined in James Gunn’s DCU

Superman

In the creation of a new DC Universe, it wouldn’t feel right without Superman being part of it. The upcoming reboot by James Gunn is fully committed to presenting David Corenswet as the latest incarnation of Superman in cinemas. Before a new interpretation of Superman can join the DCU, the storyline of Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman came to an end on television within the Arrowverse.

It’s fascinating to note that there are two distinct portrayals of Hoechlin’s Superman within the expansive Arrowverse multiverse. One is the Superman who collaborates with Earth Prime’s heroes, such as The Flash, Green Arrow, and Supergirl. The other is the protagonist from a separate universe in the series ‘Superman & Lois’, where he stands alone as the world’s last hero.

During the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover, Brandon Routh once again took on the character of Clark Kent, a role he originally played in “Superman Returns”.

Instead of centering its major crossover narratives around a core trio, it seems the DC Universe will now revolve more around Superman, implying that he plays a significant role in the overall storyline of the franchise.

Hawkgirl

In the Arrowverse, Ciara Renée’s portrayal of Hawkgirl was instrumental in bringing together the universe’s established superheroes for the initial confrontation with Vandal Savage.

Or more informally:
Ciara Renée’s character, Hawkgirl, played a big part in getting the universe’s heroes together to fight Vandal Savage for the first time in the Arrowverse.

Following their victory against Savage, Hawkgirl and Hawkman joined forces and became integral members of the DC series, “Legends of Tomorrow”, a group of time travelers that includes both reformed villains and heroes, whose mission is to safeguard the DC timeline. Regrettably, Hawkgirl was only a part of this team for one full-length story arc with the other Legends.

The DC Universe plans to make significant changes by expanding the character of Isabel Merced’s Hawkgirl, who is now expected to play a more prominent role within the Justice League, following the revelation in the Superman trailer that she will be part of the main team alongside Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern (portrayed by Nathan Fillion) and Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi).

Mr. Terrific

In the Arrowverse, Mr. Terrific (Echo Kellum) was an integral member of Oliver Queen’s main team, from seasons 4 to 8 of ‘Arrow’. As the go-to guy in the chair, Mr. Terrific played a pivotal role in assisting the Green Arrow and his other Arrowverse counterparts in overcoming significant villains, like sinister Nazi adaptations of established heroes.

As a die-hard DC Universe fan, I’m excitedly anticipating the potential growth of Mr. Terrific, portrayed brilliantly by Edi Gathegi on the silver screen. Being one of the three sharpest minds in the DC Comics universe, Mr. Terrific has the intellectual firepower to be a pivotal player within the Justice League. His analytical prowess and real-time problem-solving skills could prove invaluable in tackling the threats that the DCU faces head-on.

Supergirl

In the vast universe known as the Arrowverse, Melissa Benoist’s portrayal of Supergirl was instrumental, being one of its main heroes. Originally hailing from a different dimension (Earth-38), the epic crossover event titled “Crisis on Infinite Earths” brought her world together with that of The Flash and Green Arrow. The storyline of Supergirl in the Arrowverse concluded when she unmasked herself to the public, much like Tyler Hoechlin did in the series “Superman & Lois.

In the upcoming series “Superman: Woman of Tomorrow,” the DCU is planning to depict a significantly altered version of Supergirl, played by Milly Alcock. This is because her storyline will primarily unfold in space and she is anticipated to encounter Jason Momoa’s Lobo character.

Vigilante

In simple terms, the portrayal of Adrian Chase, also known as Vigilante, in the Arrowverse and the DC Universe are two completely distinct interpretations.

On the television screen, the character Vigilante from the Arrowverse is presented as Vincent Sobel, an aggressive vigilante in Star City who employs extreme tactics to uphold justice. In contrast, Adrian Chase of the Arrowverse was the main antagonist in Season 5 of Arrow, harboring a deep-seated grudge against Oliver Queen.

In the DC Universe, a more light-hearted and humorous version of Adrian Chase was debuted in the series “Peacemaker”, with Freddie Stroma playing the character on screen. For Season 2 of “Peacemaker”, Vigilante is set to take on a significant role as he assists John Cena’s titular character in battling formidable new adversaries.

Batman

Despite being constrained by certain limitations, Batman managed to leave an indelible impact in The Arrowverse from The CW. This was evident through Kevin Conroy’s emblematic portrayal of Bruce Wayne during the Crisis on Infinite Earths saga and Warren Christie’s brief tenure as the renowned Gotham tycoon in Batwoman.

In the DC Universe, viewers will find Batman consistently present together with David Corenswet’s Superman following his introduction in “The Brave and the Bold”.

Booster Gold

In Season 7, when Booster Gold (played by Donald Faison) first appeared, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow was unfortunately canceled by The CW, which limited the extent to which they could fully utilize Booster Gold within the Arrowverse.

As a die-hard fan of DC Universe, I can hardly contain my excitement knowing that Booster Gold, the time-jumping superhero, will be gracing us with his presence, given the announcement made by James Gunn and Peter Safran. This legendary character is set to star in his very own series, which forms an integral part of DCU’s Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. I can hardly wait!

Bonus: Kid Flash

Fans of Arrowverse might recall that Wally West, portrayed as Kid Flash, teamed up frequently with Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen (The Flash) in The CW’s “The Flash” series. Together, they thwarted significant villains such as Savitar, The Rival, and The Bloodwork during the show’s span of nine seasons.

Despite not having a formal introduction in the DC Universe (DCU) as of now, Kid Flash made an appearance in Episode 4 of Creature Commandos. In a vision of the future depicted by Circe, he was among the Earth’s heroes who met their demise at the hands of Maria Bakalova’s Princess Ilana Rostovic’s troops. It is possible that Kid Flash might join the Teen Titans or feature in another The Flash film in the future within the DCU.
