The summer of 2025 was already shaping up to be spectacular with titles like Fantastic Four and Superman on the schedule, but there’s still a lot more to look forward to beyond these releases.
2025 summer will witness the debut of eight colossal superhero movie and TV series, featuring titles like Ironheart and Peacemaker, among others. This is an exciting time for superhero enthusiasts as it signifies one of the most thrilling seasons packed with comic book-based content in quite a while.
This packed schedule follows an action-packed first half of the year, which has predominantly revolved around Marvel productions. So far in 2025, fans have been treated to a revisit of the world of Daredevil with “Daredevil: Born Again”, a confrontation with the menacing Red Hulk in “Captain America: Brave New World”, and an highly praised collaboration in “Thunderbolts”.

Ironheart
As a diehard movie fan, I can barely contain my excitement! Just weeks away now, the remarkable Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams is set to make her grand comeback in the MCU with the premiere of Ironheart. This thrilling new series, brimming with super-powered action, will grace our screens on Disney+ on June 24, 2025. Marvel Studios’ evergreen superhero saga is about to welcome another inspiring young hero into its fold!
The fresh TV show centers around a MIT student who transforms into a technologically-enhanced superhero, similar to Iron Man, and finds herself embroiled in a conflict between technology and magic against a previously unknown antagonist called The Hood, portrayed by Anthony Ramos.
The Old Guard 2
This summer, Netflix’s “The Old Guard 2” stands as the sole anticipated sequel for a superhero movie. It’s a follow-up to the popular 2020 streaming film, “The Old Guard,” and continues the story of Charlize Theron’s character, Andy, and her team of immortal soldiers. As they struggle to stay concealed, maintaining anonymity in a world that is growing more difficult by the day becomes a challenge.
In the upcoming movie, Theron will take the lead role once more, joined by Kiki Layne who starred in ‘Coming 2 America’, Marwan Kenzari from the Netherlands, and Luca Marinelli. The sequel to ‘The Old Guard’ titled ‘The Old Guard 2’ is scheduled for release on Netflix on July 2, 2025.
Superman
On July 11, 2025, the iconic DC brand will once again grace the big screen with the much-anticipated premiere of “Superman”. Known for his work on “Guardians of the Galaxy”, director James Gunn is steering this new Superman film. This movie marks the beginning of a fresh chapter in DC storytelling, launching the new DC Universe (which made its initial appearance in last year’s “Creature Commandos”).
In the upcoming story, Superman, portrayed by David Corenswet, dons the iconic costume as he confronts his archenemy Lex Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult, along with a horde of other nefarious adversaries.
Eyes of Wakanda
Audience members can eagerly anticipate returning to the enigmatic Marvel realm of Wakanda later this summer with the arrival of “Eyes of Wakanda” on Disney+. This animated anthology series will guide fans through the rich history of Wakanda, spotlighting a group of formidable warriors as they retrieve vibranium artifacts scattered across different eras.
On August 6, 2025, the series known as “Eyes of Wakanda” is set to premiere, releasing all four episodes at once. But before that, eager fans will have an early glimpse during the Annecy International Film Festival scheduled for June.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps
Following closely behind the second part of July’s eagerly awaited dual release of superhero movies is “The Fantastic Four: First Steps“. This forthcoming film represents the initial Marvel Cinematic Universe project centered around the Fantastic Four. The narrative follows an alternate reality version of the legendary team who will clash with Galactus, a cosmic entity consuming worlds, in their vision of the 1960s reimagined as a retro-futuristic setting.
The film titled “First Steps” will release on July 25, 2025. This will be the final Marvel Studios movie for the year and it will precede the following year’s “Avengers: Doomsday”.
Peacemaker Season 2
In simple terms, get ready to see John Cena reappear as Peacemaker, his character Christopher Smith, in the second season of the show this summer. The R-rated DC Max series from James Gunn will once more center around Cena’s title character, who is a troubled hero and gets recruited by the clandestine government agency ARGUS.
In this upcoming instance, the series titled “Peacemaker” is set to have a strong presence within the freshly created DC Universe, commencing its broadcast on Max on August 21, 2025.
The Toxic Avenger
As a diehard cinema enthusiast, I can’t help but get excited about one of this year’s standout comic book films – the long-awaited return of the iconic Toxic Avenger on the silver screen! This darkly humorous gem features none other than Peter Dinklage as Winston Gooze, a janitor who, following a tragic mishap, metamorphoses into a mop-armed mutant champion known as Toxie.
After many years of development (initially previewed to viewers in 2023), the movie is set for a nationwide premiere, hitting U.S. cinemas on August 29, 2025.
Batman: Caped Crusader
Among these projects, only “Batman: Caped Crusader” Season 2 does not have a set release date yet. This Amazon Prime Video animated series is set in an alternate universe where Batman operates, depicting him encountering his adversaries for the first time in a dark and stormy 1940s environment.
2025 is expected to bring the second season, with a possible release date falling within the summer period, similar to how the initial set of episodes were released a year prior.
