- 868-Hack, the cult-classic mobile release, is coming back
- Or at least it hopes to, with a new crowdfunding campaign for sequel 868-Back
- Experience the feel of hacking cyberpunk mainframes with this roguelike digital dungeoncrawler
As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can confidently say that 868-Hack has been one of the most immersive and authentic hacking experiences I’ve ever encountered. Having grown up in the era when the Matrix was still science fiction, it’s refreshing to see a game that captures the essence of cyber warfare without resorting to Hollywood-style action.
Cyber warfare is one of those things that sounds cool on paper, but rarely lives up to the expectation. After all, you’d think everyone is like Angelina Jolie in Hackers, smoothly infiltrating a network while casually chatting philosophy and looking at what people in the 90s thought was the peak of cool, not someone pretending to be a “password inspector”. But if you’ve always wanted to live the dream, a cult-classic mobile release is shaping up to have a sequel as 868-Hack now has a crowdfunding campaign for its successor, 868-Back.
As a devoted fan, I’d say that 868-Hack and its successor are uniquely immersive games that make you truly experience the life of a hacker. Just like the beloved game Uplink, it masterfully balances the intricacies of coding and information warfare to create a challenging yet intuitive hacking environment. And from my initial playthrough, I can attest that 868-Hack delivers on its promise exceptionally well.
868-Back, similar to 868-Hack, allows you to combine Programs to create intricate sequences of actions, much like actual programming. However, in this version, you’ll find a more expansive environment to traverse, featuring remixed and innovative Programs, as well as fresh rewards, visuals, and audio elements.
Hack the planet
868-Hack stands out with its rough, cyberpunk aesthetic depicting a future and its allure is undeniable. As developers may find the challenges daunting, we’re confident in extending our support to this crowd-funding initiative. However, as with any project, there’s an inherent risk, and while it would be unfortunate, we can never promise that issues won’t arise in the future.
Still, I think I speak for all of us when I say that we wish Michael Brough the best of luck in bringing 868-Hack, 868-Back!
