Contains spoilers for “9-1-1” Season 8, Episode 16 — “Last Alarm”
Despite numerous fan theories suggesting otherwise, it seems that Bobby Nash’s (Peter Krause) contentious death appears to be permanent. A significant portion of the “Last Alarm” episode revolves around Athena (Angela Bassett), as she grapples with both her grief and anger over Bobby’s selfless act of sacrificing himself to save Chimney (Kenneth Choi), following their exposure to a genetically altered Ebola-like virus in a laboratory fire.
In her current investigation of a potential kidnapping linked to a fire from eight years ago that Bobby fought, Athena continually encounters visions of him. This heartrending case becomes more distressing as each new detail unfolds – when it’s revealed that the child in question has indeed perished and was never kidnapped, it’s hard not to feel emotional. Furthermore, Athena offers an old adage that seems almost like a message from the writer to the viewers: “For a while, you might have thought miracles could happen,” she says.
In Bobby’s own words, it hurts. His death on “9-1-1” is one of the saddest we’ve seen. Despite witnessing his full funeral and a grand memorial parade in Los Angeles, some fans remain hopeful that he might still be alive. The episode “Last Alarm” showed his casket being placed in the graveyard where his original family is buried.
Fan theories include a possible coma for Bobby
Among the numerous speculations among fans on how the series “9-1-1” could bring back character Bobby, the most widely discussed theory is strengthened by a supposed script leak that surfaced on April 1st across the social media accounts of both Oliver Stark and Jennifer Love Hewitt. This alleged leaked script features a scene where Maddie (Hewitt) has a call with Bobby, in which he expresses being buried alive.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but ponder over Tim Miner’s statement about the mysterious leak. Yet, it seems eerily prophetic that Bobby’s presumed demise was hinted at weeks prior to his on-screen death. Various theories have surfaced, such as the intriguing possibility that Bobby’s death might be a dream sequence – perhaps Chimney’s or even Bobby’s own.
Another intriguing theory suggests that due to the unique nature of the virus and Bobby’s rare blood type, the government may have intervened. After all, “9-1-1” is a show where bee attacks from another dimension and ghostly encounters are part of the norm. Therefore, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to imagine that they could somehow resurrect Bobby Nash in a manner consistent with this series’ unique realism.
Regardless of how the series proceeds from here, they must grapple with the anger of their audience, as one fan on the “9-1-1” subreddit stated: “It’s absolutely insane to use an entire grief episode to suggest we’re crazy for thinking he might still be alive instead of genuinely grieving in the show… is truly insane.” For now, Bobby Nash has exited the scene, but if fans remain this enraged, who can foresee the potential consequences?
