Actor David Arquette is heading towards Woodsboro, marking his addition to the cast of the eagerly awaited “Scream 7“. This information comes from a recent article on Deadline. Alongside Arquette, familiar faces like Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown are also part of the ensemble. Interestingly, Scott Foley and Matthew Lillard, who were believed to have perished in the original movie, will be back too. As for the storyline, it’s being kept largely secret, but we do know that Sydney (Campbell) and her family will be at the heart of this new chapter.
In the ’90s, Embry was a familiar face in cinemas, typically recognized for portraying unique and identifiable characters. Some of his notable films from that era are “Empire Records,” “That Thing You Do!”, “Vegas Vacation,” and “Can’t Hardly Wait.” In the 2000s, Embry has continued to be active in Hollywood, showing up in movies such as “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle,” “The Devil’s Candy,” and “Vacancy,” and series like “Grace and Frankie,” “Sneaky Pete,” “Freaky Links,” “Brotherhood,” and “The Walking Dead.
Embry’s inclusion in the cast is a fond reminder of the ’90s origins of the Scream franchise, with the first movie hitting screens in 1996 under the guidance of iconic director Wes Craven. Although the Scream series has cultivated a new legion of fans thanks to blockbuster installments like Scream 5 and Scream 6, the presence of Embry alongside Campbell, Dillard, Foley, Cox, and Savoy Brown will resonate particularly with those who are fond of ’90s cinema. In addition to Scream 7, Embry can next be seen in Alma and the Wolf and The Gymnast.
A Nostalgic Reunion as Neve Campbell Returns for ‘Scream 7’
Neve Campbell is coming back to the Scream series, having been absent in the last movie due to a salary disagreement. The upcoming Scream 7 has deviated from its initial plan, as it was anticipated that Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega would be the main stars, having led the 2022 and 2023 Scream films respectively. Melissa Barrera left the project following comments about the Israel-Hamas conflict, prompting Jenna Ortega to exit due to scheduling conflicts with Netflix’s Wednesday series. Christopher Landon, who was set to direct, also departed shortly after. The storyline for Scream 7 is now expected to refocus on Sydney, the original franchise’s Final Girl and her family.
During an interview last year, Campbell shared:
“Sidney’s idea was presented to me, which is why I decided to join them in their venture.
Here are some new characters joining the Scream franchise: Isabel May as Sidney’s daughter, Joel McHale as Sidney’s husband, Celeste O’Connor, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Asa Germann, Anna Camp, and Mark Consuelos. Kevin Williamson, known for writing Scream, Scream 2, and Scream 4, will be directing this time around. Guy Busick, who wrote Scream 5 and 6, is penning the script for Scream 7. The return of Embry to the Scream franchise brings a sense of nostalgia, but we’ll have to wait and see how Ghostface reacts to him. Scream 7 is set to hit theaters on February 27, 2026. Currently in production in Atlanta, it will be distributed by Paramount Pictures.
