In its second weekend, Despicable Me 4 (DM4) is poised to claim the top spot on the domestic chart with an estimated earning of $44 million. This brings the film’s global cumulative revenue up to an impressive $441 million through Sunday.
The big surprise of the weekend is the better-than-expected performance of writer-director Osgood Perkins Longlegs, a serial killer chiller starring Nicolas Cage and Maika Monroe. The tense FBI procedural is headed for a second-place finish with a hefty $20 million to $23 million opening, a record start for Tom Quinn‘s Oscar-winning specialty production and distribution outfit Neon. The well-reviewed movie earned $10 million on Friday alone, including previews.
In its fifth weekend, “Inside Out 2” ranks third with record-breaking earnings. This Pixar production now has a chance to surpass all animated films in box office revenue. Currently, it holds the title as the highest-grossing Pixar film, unadjusted for inflation.
As a gamer, I’d put it like this: “A Quiet Place: Day One” from Paramount is still drawing crowds and sits at the fourth spot. I’m forecasting that it will give us a good scare with an estimated $12 million in earnings this weekend, bringing its domestic total to a thrilling $165 million by Sunday.”
Apple’s cinematic endeavors by Apple Original Films persist with the premiere of director Greg Berlanti’s romantic comedy “Fly Me to the Moon.” Starring Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum, this period space-age film faces initial challenges in its box office debut, projected to generate around $10 million (which may shift depending on unexpected weekend crowds). Critics have given it mediocre reviews, but older audience members have been more generous with an A- CinemaScore. Reviews hold greater significance for mature viewers, who are the primary demographic Apple’s production is targeting in this industry jargon, known as “older,” meaning individuals above 35 years old.
In the niche cinema marketplace, A24’s “Sing Sing” is projected to bring in a substantial per-screen earnings of around $37,000 from its showings in four theaters situated in Los Angeles and New York. The film focuses on an artistic initiative within the notorious Sing Sing penitentiary.
