Kaitlin Olson's New ABC Drama Just Landed Another Comedy Veteran, And This Role Sounds Perfect

As a big fan of both Kaitlin Olson and Garret Dillahunt, I’m beyond excited about their upcoming collaboration on ABC’s new show “High Potential.” Olson is known for her comedic roles, but this dramatic turn in her career is intriguing, and the addition of Garret Dillahunt to the cast only makes it more compelling.

Kaitlin Olson, recognized for her contributions to comedy, is poised to explore more dramatic terrain with her forthcoming ABC show, titled “High Potential“. Set to debut this fall as part of the 2024 TV lineup, the intriguing details about this series have been gradually unveiled. The cast is presently being finalized, and it appears that Olson will be collaborating with another comedy veteran. This actor is none other than Garret Dillahunt. His role in the production seems tailor-made for his talents.

An actor from “Fear the Walking Dead” is set to make a recurring appearance in the cast of “High Potential.” According to Deadline, he will portray the character of Lieutenant Melon in the drama series created by Drew Goddard. The description of the role provided by Deadline suggests that Melon may not be the most pleasant individual, particularly towards Kaitlin Olson’s character. After the news of his casting was announced, Garret Dillahunt shared the following message on Instagram:

I’ve been looking forward to this project for some time now. I’m thrilled about the upcoming show and can’t wait to collaborate with the incredibly gifted Kaitlin Olson at last.

Garret Dillahunt might not be a familiar name to you, but I bet you’ve come across his acting talents at some point. He gained significant recognition during the ’90s, featuring in movies and TV shows such as “ER,” “No Country for Old Men,” “Winter’s Bone,” and “Criminal Minds.” In television, he has also starred in “The Mindy Project,” “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,” and the previously mentioned “Fear the Walking Dead.” However, many fans recognize him best for his role on the Fox sitcom “Raising Hope,” which aired from 2010 to 2014. It’s safe to say that he will make an excellent addition to this ABC series.

As a fan, I’d describe the series in this way: In this captivating show, I get to witness Kaitlin Olson bring Morgan, a brilliant yet single mother of three, to life. Morgan’s exceptional intellect catches the attention of the police, leading her to join forces with seasoned detective Karadec (Daniel Sunjata). As for Lt. Melon, he oversees the Robbery Division at the LAPD precinct. However, his true passion lies in solving true crimes. Consequently, he often voices his discontent with his current role, providing an intriguing dynamic to the storyline.

Garret Dillahunt’s fit for this role is exceptional due to its similarity to his previous character in “Fear the Walking Dead,” where he played the role of a police officer, John Dorie. In that series, Dillahunt delivered an outstanding performance that earned him recognition from viewers. Some, like Nick Venable from TopMob, even proposed a Dorie murder-mystery spinoff. Although Melon is less friendly than described, I am confident that Dillahunt will excel in this role and bring depth to the seemingly arrogant character.

Among the new additions to the show, joining Garret Dillahunt and Kaitlin Olson, are Javicia Leslie, Matthew Lamb, Amirah J, Deniz Akdeniz, and Judy Reyes. With such a talented cast and a lead actress known for her impressive work, it’s expected that the show will provide an enjoyable experience. Kaitlin Olson, who has garnered praise from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia colleagues before the release, is certain to deliver a top-notch performance alongside Dillahunt and the rest.

In ABC’s autumn lineup, the new show “High Potential” is set to debut on Tuesday, September 17 at 10 p.m. Eastern Time. Before then, be sure to check out some of the impressive summer programs currently gracing your screens.
