As a huge fan of “The Daily Show” and Jon Stewart, I’m deeply disappointed by the cancellation of their Milwaukee coverage at the Republican National Convention. The attempted assassination of the presumptive nominee this past weekend raised serious security concerns, and I completely understand why the team had to make this decision for safety reasons.
Due to the attempted assassination of former President Trump over the weekend, The Daily Show announced it has scrapped its plans to film in Milwaukee during this week’s Republican National Convention. Instead, the show will be absent from the airwaves on Monday and will resume broadcasting starting Tuesday, live from New York City.
“The Daily Show won’t air on Monday (tomorrow). Instead, we’ll be back at our New York studio from Tuesday to Thursday. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused. Unfortunately, due to complexities involving Milwaukee and unforeseen circumstances, we must postpone our Wisconsin events. We plan to make up for these missed engagements in the near future.”

Over the weekend, there was a significant talk about security at the Republican National Convention (RNC) due to an assassination attempt against the presumptive nominee during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. Despite this incident, Trump’s campaign reported that he was in good health following the event. Subsequently, Trump announced his intention to attend the convention in Milwaukee and deliver a speech, which is set to begin on Monday.
The Daily Show had planned to provide live reporting from the convention site, intending to film their daily episodes at Milwaukee’s Marcus Performing Arts Center. Jon Stewart and his news team were set to take turns hosting these broadcasts. Stewart is slated to host this Thursday’s episode, coinciding with the RNC’s final night.
Representatives for the series did not immediately respond to request for comment.
On Sunday in Milwaukee, the show organized an event combining voter registration and dog adoption, named “Indogcision: Saving Democracy.” This was initially slated as the opening event for their weekly broadcasts.
