Disney World Is Testing A New Line Option, And As A Frequent Single Rider, I Don't Love It

As a dedicated theme park enthusiast and seasoned gamer, I’ve spent countless hours exploring the magical worlds of Disney and the thrilling landscapes of gaming. With years of experience under my belt, I’ve come to appreciate the intricacies of both mediums, and the immersive experiences they offer. However, there is one aspect of Disney World that has always been a source of frustration for me: the infamous lines.

At Disney World, one constant element of your visit is encountering long queues. Despite the introduction and upcoming enhancement of Genie+ and Lightning Lane Multi-Pass to bypass certain lines, you’ll still find yourself waiting in some. Consequently, the prospect of avoiding what is typically the longest queue might sound appealing, but in all honesty, I dislike this concept.

Over the weekend, some visitors shared on X (previously Twitter) that Disney’s Hollywood Studios introduced a Single Rider option for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. This attraction in Galaxy’s Edge is the most frequently visited ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and often has the longest wait time among all rides in Disney World. Single Rider lines are implemented in various attractions to utilize empty seats on rides with consistently unoccupied spots. However, despite my frequent use of Single Rider lines, I might not take advantage of this one.

Rise Of The Resistance Single Rider Line Skips Some Of The Best Parts Of The Attraction

As a theme park specialist, I often visit parks for my job and usually go solo. When I get a chance to enjoy some rides for pleasure, I frequently utilize Single Rider queues if they’re accessible. I’ve experienced all Single Rider attractions at Disneyland Resort and the majority of those in Disney World.

I have my doubts about using the Single Rider line for Rise of the Resistance, as it bypasses some elements I enjoy during the waiting experience, which significantly contributes to this attraction’s excellence.

During this part of the experience, visitors receive a message from Rey via transmission. Following her instructions, they board a transport intended for escape from Batuu. Unfortunately, the First Order intercepts the transport, resulting in guests being placed in a second line to be placed in interrogation rooms. It isn’t until after this dramatic setup that the ride truly commences.

Instead of going through the entire transportation process and waiting in line for the Star Destroyer ride like other guests, the Single Rider line skips this step and goes directly to the boarding area. This is much like what occurs when the transport part of the ride breaks down. Frankly, this isn’t ideal as the queue experience is an essential aspect of any attraction, contributing significantly to the overall enjoyment, particularly in cases where Disney World outshines Disneyland.

The Rise Of The Resistance Queue Has Some Of The Attraction’s Best Elements

As a gamer, I’d say this: The heart of Rise of the Resistance remains an impressive attraction, but the queue is genuinely where it shines for me. The transport ship feels like a motion simulator ride leading up to the main event. And let me tell you, getting a glimpse of Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron is a real bonus!

An intriguing aspect of this experience is the unexpected surprise that follows entering through one door on “Batuu” and boarding the transport ship. When guests anticipate exiting via the second door upon being captured by the ship, they are instead met with the arrival of the First Order through the very same entrance. This clever twist may seem insignificant at first, but it effectively adds to the overall excitement and enjoyment for riders, especially during repeated trips on the attraction.

If I truly crave riding Rise of the Resistance, and there’s an option for the Single Rider line with significantly less waiting time, I might take that route instead of enduring a wait of over an hour and a half. However, using the Single Rider line won’t deliver the same level of enjoyment as experiencing it with my entire group.

Currently, the Single Rider line for this ride seems like an experiment. If it proves effective, it’s likely to become a permanent feature. For now, no testing is taking place at Disneyland’s version of the attraction. However, if the trial run succeeds in Orlando, expect the Single Rider line to become available at Disneyland Resort soon.
