As a die-hard fan of Splitgate who witnessed its meteoric rise and subsequent hiatus, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the announcement of Splitgate 2. The original game, with its unique blend of Halo and Portal mechanics, captured my imagination and millions of others, amassing an impressive two million daily active players and raising a staggering $100 million in investments.
If a Halo and Portal hybrid game is something that excites you, then here’s some good news. Two years after the development of Splitgate ended and it became stuck in an endless beta phase, the team at 1047 Games has returned with an intriguing new project.
Back in the days when 1047 Games was still viewed as an underdog in the industry, Splitgate managed to amass an impressive following with over two million daily active players. This success didn’t go unnoticed and attracted investors who infused an extra $100 million into the project. However, instead of using this newfound wealth to further enhance Splitgate, the team decided to explore different opportunities.

In a blog post for PlayStation, 1047 CEO Ian Proulx shares his thoughts on the differences between the original game and Splitgate 2. He expressed, “I’ve always believed that Splitgate 2 is the game I envisioned creating when Nicholas Bagamian and I started brainstorming in a Stanford dorm room and decided to integrate portals into a shooter.”
As a long-time fan of multiplayer first-person shooter games, I’m thrilled to hear that Splitgate 2 is reportedly in development and will be free-to-play. With my years of gaming experience under my belt, I can appreciate the appeal of a game made using Unreal Engine 5, which promises stunning graphics and immersive gameplay.
According to Proulx, the reason we have Splitgate 2 instead of an expansion of the original is that he determined the most excellent adaptation would be a fresh start. Consequently, the team began creating from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5. This new version includes novel character models, maps, weapons, and even advanced portal walls and portals.
As a passionate fan of Splitgate, I ponder over two essential goals: “How can we maintain the excitement throughout the year?” and “What if we create a game that could thrive for a decade or even more?” With all the buzz surrounding Splitgate, there’s a strong likelihood that its successor will make an impact and carve out a niche in the competitive FPS scene.
As a long-time fan of multiplayer shooter games, I’m thrilled to hear that Splitgate 2 is set to release on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox in 2025. Having followed the development of Splitgate since its early days, I’ve grown fond of its unique blend of portal-based combat and team-oriented gameplay. The extra time 1047 Games has been given to work on the sequel can only mean great things for the title.
As a seasoned gamer with over a decade of experience under my belt, I find it intriguing when game developers clarify the genre of their upcoming titles. The recent announcement from the Splitgate 2 X team caught my attention, as they emphasized that their game is not a hero shooter. Instead, they highlighted the significance of factions within their game, setting it apart from popular games like Overwatch.
