After The Blade Reboot’s Setbacks, Marvel’s Kevin Feige Provided An Update That Has Me Feeling Optimistic About The Film

As a long-time Marvel Cinematic Universe fan and avid gamer with countless hours spent playing superhero video games, I can’t help but feel both excited and frustrated about the ongoing development of the new Blade movie. The prospect of Mahershala Ali stepping into the iconic role of Eric Brooks, the Daywalker, has been a dream come true for many fans like myself. However, the seemingly endless production delays and director changes have left us eagerly waiting with bated breath.

Fans of Marvel Cinematic Universe were thrilled in 2019 when Marvel Studios announced at San Diego Comic-Con that a new version of “Blade” with Mahershala Ali was under development. Since then, there have been several reports about the film’s production, but unfortunately, not all of the news has been good. The long-awaited superhero movie has experienced numerous delays over the past few years, leaving fans disappointed. However, producer Kevin Feige recently provided an update on the project, and I must admit, my optimism about the vampire film has been renewed.

For years, there have been rumors circulating about the MCU debut of the Daywalker, with fans anxiously waiting for definite information. It’s no wonder then, that during an interview with BlackTree TV, Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios’ head, was queried about the project’s progress. At the time, Feige was publicizing “Deadpool & Wolverine,” the latest production from his studio. While he didn’t disclose specific details regarding the current stage of production, his responses during the interview suggested that the team is treating this long-planned project with great importance. As a dedicated gamer and huge fan of the Blade franchise for several years now, I understand the importance of taking our time to create an authentic Blade movie experience. Previous R-rated Blade productions set the bar high, and we don’t want to rush things or compromise the essence of this iconic character. So, I firmly believe that sticking with the R rating is a must for us, just like it was for the successful Blade movies from the past.

Approximately five years ago, news broke that Mahershala Ali was set to star in a film, with Bassam Tariq originally slated to direct. In September 2021, it was announced that Tariq had departed the project, and by November of the same year, Yann Demange took over as director. However, Demange left the production in June 2023, leading to yet another change at the helm for this Marvel-backed reboot. Throughout this tumultuous journey, various writers including Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Beau DeMayo and Nic Pizzolatto were attached to the movie at different stages. As a result, this film’s path to theaters has been quite challenging.

As a long-time fan of the Blade franchise, I can certainly empathize with those eagerly anticipating Mahershala Ali’s MCU debut as the iconic vampire hunter. However, I find solace in Kevin Feige’s recent statements, which suggest that Marvel Studios is putting great care and attention into bringing this new Blade to life.

As a gamer, I’ve learned that patience is key in achieving great things. The same applies to the world of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and its superhero flicks. I’ve noticed that some productions, like Doctor Strange and Black Panther, have been in development for quite a while. I started following the news about Doctor Strange back in 2009, with writers being brought on board in 2010. It’s fascinating to see how long it took for this film to finally hit theaters in 2016. Similarly, Black Panther, which became a massive success when it opened in 2018, had been in the works since the mid-2000s.

From a gamer’s perspective, the new director for “Blade” hasn’t been announced yet, but Eric Pearson, who wrote “Thor: Ragnarok,” “Black Widow,” and “Thunderbolts” among other MCU projects, is currently working on rewriting the script. Mahershala Ali and Mia Goth are still attached to star in the movie. There’s no denying that there are numerous unresolved aspects of this project, but as a fan, I believe that the end product will be an exciting and worthwhile addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In the interim, you can watch the Marvel films consecutively by subscribing to Disney+. Additionally, don’t miss out on the new addition to the Multiverse Saga, “Deadpool & Wolverine” (releasing in theaters on July 26), which is one of the highly anticipated movies slated for 2024.
