With the recent buzz surrounding upcoming Marvel projects, it’s easy to get lost in the hype of new trailers and casting announcements. However, one hero that has remained a bit enigmatic since his last triumphant outing is Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
As an avid gamer and Marvel movies fan, I’ve been excitedly following the latest news about the upcoming slate of Marvel films. The new trailer for “Captain America: Brave New World” has created quite a buzz, along with the official casting announcement for “The Fantastic Four.” Not to mention, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) are teaming up for a movie that’s set to release next week.
As a devoted fan, I’ve noticed that Spidey’s journey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been guided by director Jon Watts since the release of “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” During my visit to New York City for “Deadpool and Wolverine” press events, I was fortunate enough to meet with Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige. In our conversation, I inquired about the upcoming “Spider-Man 4.” Regarding Jon Watts’ involvement in the franchise moving forward, Feige shared with me that:
Jon has brought us three outstanding Spider-Man movies that we greatly admire. Currently, he has numerous commitments keeping him occupied. As a result, it’s likely that we will need to find another talented individual to take on this role for us.
Jon Watts is currently occupied with various projects. Firstly, he’s set to release a movie titled “Wolves” towards the end of this year, which stars George Clooney and Brad Pitt as rival cleanup men. The trailer suggests an entertaining watch with these two charismatic leads. Following that, Watts will transition from Marvel to Star Wars, directing episodes for the upcoming Disney+ series named “Skeleton Crew.” Although we don’t have much information about this series, we know it will introduce Jude Law into the Star Wars universe and focus on an adventure involving children.
It seems that Jon Watts, who has been linked to “Skeleton Crew” and other projects, may no longer be an option for directing “Spider-Man 4.” This news supports some rumors about the upcoming sequel. Various directors have been suggested as potential replacements, including Sam Raimi, the original “Spider-Man” director, and the dynamic duo of Bilall and Adil, known for their work on “Ms. Marvel” episodes and having connections to Sony through the “Bad Boys” franchise. I personally hope they get the opportunity to direct “Spider-Man 4,” and I’m excited about their potential Batgirl movie as well.
After the conclusion of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” Peter Parker (Tom Holland) seemed more alone and financially strapped than ever as Spider-Man. We’re eagerly looking forward to discovering which director will introduce a new phase for Spider-Man within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
