Netflix Goes Hard On Gaming with Over 80 Games in the Works

As a dedicated gamer and long-term Netflix subscriber, I’m thrilled to hear that the streaming giant is expanding its horizons into gaming with over 80 titles currently in development. This news was music to my ears during their recent earnings call, as I’ve often found myself craving more immersive experiences based on my favorite Netflix shows.

Netflix’s foray into gaming is ongoing, with approximately 80 games being worked on at present, according to a recent announcement by Netflix co-CEO Gregory K. Peters during the organization’s earning update.

Peters continues by explaining that the platform has introduced over a hundred games so far and intends to add at least one fresh game each month from now on. Most of these games will be interactive narratives derived from Netflix’s popular shows such as Selling Sunset and Emily in Paris due to their simpler development process.

“Regarding Netflix Games, we’re seeing positive engagement growth in 2024 and have set higher targets for 2025 and 2026. However, it’s important to mention that this engagement and its impact on our business as a whole is currently minimal. Additionally, the amount we’re investing in games compared to our total content budget is also relatively low,” Peters explained.

Theodore A. Sarandos, Netflix’s co-CEO alongside Reed Hastings, shared his enthusiasm for the company’s new gaming venture by stating that these games offer an excellent chance for dedicated fans to “have a space to engage between seasons and beyond.” Sarandas further explained the potential of developing future narratives for existing franchises through interactive stories. By introducing new characters and storylines within these games, he suggested that these elements could later “manifest in upcoming seasons or sequels to movies.”

Netflix’s foray into gaming is still new, but its leaders are optimistic about the venture. Currently, Netflix is prioritizing expansion in this area, and the 80 games under development support this goal.

As an avid fan, I’m thrilled that I can now access Netflix Games on my mobile device and play exciting titles such as Grand Theft Auto 3 and Hades straight from the platform.
