The Simpsons Co-Boss Shares Awesome Way The Series Was Honored And Hilariously Said It Was ‘Much Better’ Than Watching The Birth Of His Children

As a long-time fan and avid gamer, I can’t help but be in awe of the incredible longevity and impact of The Simpsons. Having grown up with this iconic show, it’s been an absolute pleasure to see its cast and crew, like Matt Selman, remain involved for decades. Selman’s recent experience of attending a Belle & Sebastian concert where they performed an original song for the show is a testament to the unique experiences that come with being part of such a beloved cultural phenomenon.

Few creatives in Hollywood or otherwise get to work on the same projects for prolonged periods, but The Simpsons is an exception. For over three decades, this iconic sitcom has kept its cast and team engaged with no signs of slowing down. As a long-term writer and executive producer like Matt Selman can attest, The Simpsons has been celebrated in numerous ways through merchandise, TV specials, and even questionable tattoos. Selman recently shared an amusing anecdote about a particularly hilarious episode of The Simpsons that he found more entertaining than watching childbirth. Bravo!

In a recent episode of the podcast “Doughboys,” Selman made an appearance as a guest, joining hosts Mike Mitchell and Nick Wiger. Previously working as an assistant writer for The Simpsons and now starring in Twisted Metal, Mitchell played a part in the conversation. During the discussion, Wiger jokingly stated that playing Baldur’s Gate 3 extensively would be the most remarkable day in Selman’s life. However, Mitchell pointed out that Selman is married with children, implying that their life experiences likely hold more significance than a day spent playing a video game.

Later on, Selman attempted to argue against the idea that weddings and having children are automatically the best days of one’s life. To support his perspective, he told this amusing story linked to “Ae Bonny Romance” in Season 35:

As someone who has been through both the joyous experiences of weddings and the births of children, as well as the unique excitement of collaborating with beloved artists like Belle & Sebastian on The Simpsons, I can attest that each moment holds its own distinct charm.

It’s an extraordinary and desirable feeling for a creator to have such a distinctive experience in any field. I’m deeply passionate about my favorite bands, and the thought of contributing to something related to them is truly exhilarating. The icing on the cake would be seeing that experience reflected in their live shows, unexpectedly adding to the excitement for their fans. What an unforgettable thrill that would be!

From another perspective, almost every family around the world experiences childbirth in some way. So, compared to rare occurrences, it’s not all that unique. I, like Matt Selman, am married with two daughters, and I can attest that a baby’s birth is not necessarily the “best day ever.” In fact, I believe attending a concert offers more pleasure, less stress, and less pain – particularly for mothers.

While I generally share Selman’s perspective that most weddings involve more effort than enjoyment, my personal experience differs as my wedding featured one of my beloved bands, making it an exceptional day for me. However, other people’s weddings can be quite the opposite.

In a previous episode of “Doughboys,” Matt Selman excitedly announced that Conan O’Brien, an ex-writer for “The Simpsons” and legendary talk show host, is coming back to Springfield. He expressed this by saying:

Conan O’Brien is set to make an appearance on the first episode of The Simpsons. He’ll be portraying his own character in the show.

I’ve been thrilled to see Conan O’Brien make brief appearances on “The Simpsons” and “Futurama” in the past, with his head-in-a-jar making an appearance here and there. But according to Matt Selman, things are about to change for the better in the upcoming Season 36 premiere of “The Simpsons.” He mentioned that O’Brien’s role will be more substantial than what fans have experienced before. Fingers crossed that means we’ll get a fresh take on “The Monorail Song,” which he’s previously performed live for a special “Simpsons” event. Fox’s Fall Schedule announcement hinted at this exciting development, stating:

  • In The Simpsons Season 36 premiere, Bart celebrates the most shocking birthday party of his entire life — one that might just change everyone in Springfield forever.

The thirty-sixth season of “The Simpsons” is scheduled to air on September 29, 2024 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time on TV. Previously aired seasons 1 to 34 can be accessed with a Disney+ membership, but to rewatch Season 35’s “A Bonny Romance” and the rest of the episodes, you currently need a Hulu subscription.
