Ahead Of The Chris Farley Biopic, Paul Walter Hauser Gets Real About The Most ‘Difficult’ Part Of Playing The Comedy Legend

As a long-time fan of Chris Farley and his iconic comedy performances, I can’t help but feel both excited and apprehensive about Paul Walter Hauser taking on the role of portraying my beloved hero in the upcoming biopic, “The Chris Farley Show.”

Chris Farley is famously recognized for bringing laughter to audiences through his roles in TV shows and films like “Saturday Night Live,” “Tommy Boy,” and “Airheads.” Now, Paul Walter Hauser takes on the challenge of portraying this American comedian in “The Chris Farley Show.” Yet, Hauser openly acknowledges the greatest hurdle he faces in embodying the SNL veteran.

Paul Walter Hauser has previously brought real-life characters to life in his acting career. Notably, he portrayed murderer Larry Hall in “Black Bird” on Apple TV+ and security guard Richard Jewell in Clint Eastwood’s biopic. Despite having spent his entire career preparing for the role of Chris Farley, Hauser acknowledged to Variety that taking on the comedy legend’s persona presented a significant challenge.

As a seasoned actress with numerous roles under my belt, I’ve learned that every new project comes with its own set of challenges and criticisms. But when it comes to playing the iconic character Chris, I’m not just excited, I’m downright thrilled!

It would be a wonderful experience for me to bring to life the man who significantly influenced Saturday Night Live within just a few seasons. Although Chris Farley brought immense joy to audiences through his comedic performances, his personal life was marked by struggles with alcoholism and drug addiction. Sadly, he lost his life at the young age of 33 due to an overdose. Despite his brief existence, he left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have known him.

As a huge fan of Chris Farley’s comedy, I’m thrilled to learn about the upcoming biopic on his life. Paul Walter Hauser, who stars in the film, referred to it as a “glorious tribute” meant to celebrate Farley’s vibrant acting career. It’s heartening to know that we’ll be focusing more on the laughter and joy he brought to audiences rather than dwelling too much on any hardships he faced during his life.

Based on current information, the Chris Farley biopic is expected to provide an engaging account of Chris Farley’s life and professional journey. This likely involves portraying his most popular sketches such as “Lunch Lady Land,” “Bennett Brauer,” and “Matt Foley: Motivational Speaker.” Additionally, scenes from his famous movies will be included.

An upcoming biographical film will be inspired by the 2009 oral history book “The Chris Farley Show: A Biography in Three Acts” written by his brother Tom Farley Jr. and Tanner Colby. This bestselling book includes interviews with those close to him, offering a detailed perspective on the life of this accomplished comedian. Directing the film will be Josh Gad from “Frozen,” and producing will be Lorne Michaels, the creator/producer of “SNL.” With input from Farley’s fans and acquaintances involved in the production, we can expect an authentic portrayal of Chris Farley’s spirit.

Paul Walter Hauser might face challenges in accurately portraying Chris Farley because of viewers’ preconceived notions. However, given his admiration for the late comedian and the impressive range of comedy and emotion he’s demonstrated in past projects, I believe Hauser will effectively capture the essence of Chris Farley on the big screen.

Check out the lineup of movies scheduled for release in 2025; it’s possible that “The Chris Farley Show” might be included. Alternatively, you can enjoy Chris Farley’s comedy sketches from Saturday Night Live (SNL) as part of your Peacock streaming subscription.
