Mirzapur 3: Co-director REACTS to fans' disappointment over Divyenndu aka Munna Bhaiya’s absence; confirms season 4

As a die-hard fan of Mirzapur, I have been following the series since its inception and was absolutely thrilled with the way it unfolded in the first two seasons. The gritty portrayal of power, politics, and crime in the heartland of India resonated deeply with me and kept me hooked till the very end. So, when I heard that the reviews for Mirzapur 3 have been mixed, I was taken aback.

Mirzapur gained immense popularity in its first two seasons. however, based on the feedback from critics and viewers, it appears that the show’s success is waning with the release of its third season. Anand Iyer, one of the co-directors of Mirzapur 3, spoke to India Today about this issue, expressing his understanding of fan disappointment over certain character endings.

Anand Iyer on people missing Munna Bhaiya in Mirzapur 3

As a lifestyle expert, I’d put it this way: In the second season of Munna Bhaiya, a beloved character portrayed by Divyenndu came to an unexpected end and didn’t reappear for the third part. Anand, the creator of the show, shared his perspective on managing audience expectations while staying true to the storyline. “It’s impossible to please everyone,” he stated, reminding us that life and television can be unpredictable at times.

Iyer explained, “Just like in a performance, characters enter and exit. It’s not just about ‘Mirzapur,’ it’s about the overall story. The show needs to continue with fresh developments.” For those unfamiliar, it’s unclear if the character was deliberately written out or if Divyenndu chose not to rejoin the production.

During an interview with Humans of Bombay this year, Divyenndu confessed that immersing himself in his character had influenced his own personality in significant ways. He explained, “It’s important not to idealize getting lost in a role too deeply because it can be challenging. At times, the intensity became overwhelming for me, leaving me feeling suffocated.”

Anand Iyer on Mirzapur 3’s mixed reception

As a lifestyle expert, I understand that in these times of Corona, the reception for most shows has been a mixed bag. Some audiences have shared their concerns, while others remain hopeful about where Mirzapur is headed. I acknowledge the emotional responses from some fans, but I believe their feelings are more connected to the characters rather than the show as a whole.

“During the same interview, Anand mentioned that there are ongoing debates about Season 4, which makes me think the show has a large fan base. However, he assured that while he’s positive about its development, fans may have to be patient for more information.”

Iyer shared that Production for Season 3 of Mirzapur was postponed because of COVID-19, but progress is being made and they’re now moving forward towards creating Season 4, thanks to the immense support they’ve received from fans.

Mirzapur celebrates womanhood and different shades of powerful ladies

During the interview, Anand shared that Mirzapur’s storyline is heavily influenced by women and brings their roles to the forefront. He described it as a “coming-of-age” tale and expressed admiration for women, stating that they are powerful and remarkable beings. Drawing inspiration from the women in his own life, Anand emphasized the importance of giving them more representation in stories like Mirzapur.

In Mirzapur, Gurmmeet Singh takes the lead role as showrunner, with Anand mentioning that no obstacles were anticipated. Gurmeet’s involvement stems from his presence in the last two seasons. As a new addition to this accomplished team, Anand explained, “We work together in harmony.” During conversations with Singh, actors, and careful character development planning, we ensure a cohesive narrative. This is a deliberate approach we adopt.

As an obsessed fan, I’d love to share my excitement with those who may not be in the know! Mirzapur is a must-watch series, now streaming exclusively on Prime Video.
