The One Rule Every Marvel & Star Wars Movie Or TV Show Must Follow

As a long-time gamer and avid fan of Marvel and Star Wars, I can’t help but feel a mix of nostalgia and disappointment regarding Disney’s strict no-smoking policy in their films. Lightsabers and superheroes have been part of my childhood memories, and the thought of seeing my beloved characters puffing on cigars or cigarettes was always a small yet significant detail that added to their authenticity.

As a longtime fan of Disney’s magical world, I can’t help but be thrilled by the wonders it brings to life: Lightsabers clashing in epic Star Wars battles, Iron Man soaring through the skies, and far-off galaxies filled with wonder and discovery. But there’s one thing that doesn’t fit into this fantastical landscape for me – smoking.

During the meeting, Iger declared that starting from now, no movies under Marvel, Lucas, Pixar, and Disney labels would feature smoking. Previously, around 43% of Marvel franchise films had characters lighting up. However, he acknowledged that if a movie was based on a historical figure who smoked, like Abraham Lincoln, exceptions would be made. New characters in any future films under these labels will not be allowed to smoke.

As a longtime fan of both Hugh Jackman and the X-Men franchise, I find it intriguing how the recent Marvel Studios’ rules against smoking in their movies could impact Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine. Having watched him embody this iconic character for decades with his signature cigarette dangling from his lips, I can’t help but wonder how this change might affect the authenticity and continuity of the beloved character.

Could Wolverine kick the habit after his arrival in the MCU?

Imagining Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in his everyday life is like picturing him at a worn-down bar, sipping on a shot while wearing a flannel shirt. To enhance this image, envision him enjoying a cigar between swigs. This scene was popularized only in movies as Marvel previously forbade such depictions following an edict from then editor-in-chief Joe Quesada. With the established rule at Disney, what does it mean for Logan, who, after a recent interview with his beard’s creator, may be returning to the MCU?

During an interview with Variety about the possibility of “Deadpool & Wolverine” being his last appearance as the character, Hugh Jackman expressed uncertainty and declined to confirm or deny the rumors regarding his involvement in Marvel’s “Secret Wars.” If he encounters the Avengers, it remains unclear if there will be an effort for Wolverine to quit smoking altogether or if he’ll continue the habit depending on the nature of his superhero adventures. For the time being, we must wait and find out whether Logan chooses a healthier lifestyle as his tenure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe potentially extends.
