As a huge fan of Carl Hiaasen’s quirky and humorous crime novels, I can hardly contain my excitement for Apple TV+’s upcoming adaptation of “Bad Monkey.” Bill Lawrence has been passionate about bringing this story to life for years, and the star-studded cast, which includes Vince Vaughn, Michelle Monaghan, Zach Braff, and even a capuchin monkey, promises an unforgettable viewing experience.
The long-awaited adaptation of Carl Hiaasen’s 2013 novel “Bad Monkey,” produced by Bill Lawrence, is now ready to debut on Apple TV+. With a firm release date of August 14th, Apple TV+ unveiled the first trailer for this passion project on Wednesday.
In the light-hearted Florida mystery set in the Keys, Vince Vaughn portrays Andrew Yancy, a former Miami detective who was forced out of the police department and now works as a health inspector following his transfer. When a wealthy tourist accidentally catches an arm during a fishing trip, Yancy becomes entangled in a murder investigation that he believes could lead to him getting his badge back if he solves it successfully.
As a gamer, I’d describe it like this: In this quirky mystery, I come across an eclectic cast of characters, some familiar faces included L. Scott Caldwell, Rob Delaney, Meredith Hagner, Natalie Martinez, Alex Moffat, Michelle Monaghan, Ronald Peet, and even a capuchin monkey stealing the show as our titular primate. Notable guest appearances include Zach Braff from “Scrubs,” Ashley Nicole Black, Scott Glenn, John Ortiz, and Lawrence’s own daughter, Charlotte Lawrence, making her television debut in Bad Monkey.
As a longtime Apple TV+ subscriber and avid fan of their high-quality productions, I’m thrilled to share my excitement about the upcoming release of “Bad Monkey,” a new ten-episode series that will be rolled out weekly starting from August 14. Having just witnessed the successful premiere of “Presumed Innocent,” which was recently renewed for a second season, I can’t help but feel fortunate to be part of this journey with Apple TV+.
As a devoted fan of high-quality television, I’ve been eagerly anticipating every new project from the brilliant mind of Jason Sudeikis. Lawrence, with his unique storytelling abilities and impeccable comic timing, has once again outdone himself. Although Hiassan has written many mystery novels and there have been numerous efforts to turn them into TV shows, this is his first time adapting one for television. One of his children’s books, titled “Hoot,” was previously made into a movie back in 2006.
