As a devoted fan of Channing Tatum’s versatile acting skills, I am thrilled to witness him stepping out of his comfort zone and into the dark and psychopathic role of Slater King in Zoë Kravitz’s directorial debut, “Blink Twice.” Tatum’s interview with Total Film only adds fuel to the anticipation, as he shares his unique approach to embodying such a complex character.
Channing Tatum, the charming and witty actor from Hollywood, is set to surprise fans with a chilling new experience. In “Blink Twice,” his latest project helmed by debutant director Zoë Kravitz, audiences will join Tatum on an intense psychological journey. This thriller explores the complexities of power and wealth. In a departure from his typical roles, Tatum portrays Slater King, a chilling tech billionaire whose dark side is yet to be discovered by us.
Fans are already excitedly waiting for the mystery surrounding Slater King, played by Tatum, as rumors swirl around. To heighten the curiosity, Tatum granted an exclusive interview to Total Film where he discussed stepping out of his comfort zone to portray this complex and disturbing character.
“This is the first role I’ve ever taken on that wasn’t filled with affection or a bond for me. In all my previous acting jobs, I found some love or connection towards the character. I can’t imagine sharing the disturbing thoughts I had to develop in order to portray this psychopath.”
Amidst the scenic beauty of a sun-drenched private isle, the novel “Blink Twice” begins with an intriguing meeting between Slater King and a waitress named Frida. Their lives cross paths once more, resulting in Frida’s invitation to join King at his isolated haven. She brings her friend, Jess, along for the adventure. However, things take a dark turn when Jess goes missing, and the idyllic setting transforms into a terror-filled maze of peculiar occurrences. The tension and mystery heighten as hints point back to the wealthy King himself.
Kravitz’s Inspiration Behind Creating Blink Twice
As a gamer, I’ve always been impressed by Kravitz’s acting skills in films like “The Batman” and “Kimi.” However, until now, she hasn’t had the opportunity to take on the role of a director. The project, previously known as “Pussy Island,” generated buzz and debate before filming began. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Kravitz shared how the “seed of the story” is rooted in the “anger and frustration regarding the lack of dialogue about the mistreatment of women.” She explained that the movie represents a time when it was acceptable for a group of men to name a place as such, and how the illusion is that we’ve moved beyond that era.
As a director, Kravitz recognizes her duties towards her audience and takes their sensitivities into account. Since “Blink Twice” is a film that explores themes of power dynamics and isolation in its storyline, it’s crucial that the title resonates with both the artistic vision and societal relevance behind it. Kravitz believes that the intrigue and intensity of the movie stem from characters feeling trapped in an unfamiliar environment.
In my opinion, the story revolved around power struggles and deliberately placing the characters in solitary situations. Such circumstances can be extremely terrifying – whether one is confined in a car trunk, hidden in a closet, or cornered in a dimly lit party room. I aimed to construct an atmosphere where the characters were compelled to endure the disintegration of power structures, drawing inspiration from “Lord of the Flies.”
Instead of Channing Tatum, the movie “Blink Twice” introduces Naomi Ackie as the character named Frida. The film boasts an impressive cast including Christian Slater, Simon Rex, Adria Arjona, Kyle MacLachlan, Haley Joel Osment, Geena Davis, and Alia Shawkat. Their presence adds depth and intrigue to this gripping thriller. We can’t wait to see how these distinct personalities collide, tension builds, and the story takes unexpected turns in “Blink Twice”.
Blink Twice
