As a long-time fan of both Deadpool and Wolverine, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions as I watch “Deadpool & Wolverine.” The opening scene where Deadpool unearths Wolverine’s bones is a stark reminder of the end of an era, as we bid farewell to Hugh Jackman’s iconic portrayal of the clawed mutant.
Between Ryan Reynolds’ humorous quips and the intricate collapsing of the Marvel 20th Century Fox universe, “Deadpool & Wolverine” offers much to dissect in this engaging addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Firstly, it is essential to establish which version of Wolverine (portrayed by Hugh Jackman) appears in this film, following his departure at the end of “Logan” in 2017. To put it simply, the movie swiftly confirms that the aforementioned Logan has indeed met his demise – and even incorporates a dance number using his skeleton as a macabre prop.
In an exceptional opening scene for a Deadpool film, we meet up with Wade (Reynolds) once more. He unearths Logan’s bones, who was last depicted being interred by X-23 (Dafne Keen), in a previous farewell ceremony. Could Wolverine encounter the one who has been deceased for the last seven years and is now allegedly revived, leading to more destruction with his claws?
