'Money Over The Fans:' Charles Barkley Rips NBA In Statement After League Officially Chooses Amazon Over TNT

As a long-time basketball fan and avid viewer of Inside the NBA, I can’t help but feel disappointed and frustrated with the recent turn of events. Charles Barkley, one of my favorite analysts on the show, has expressed his deep disappointment with the NBA’s decision to exclude TNT from their media rights deal in favor of Amazon, Disney, and NBC.

Following several weeks of intense speculation about “Inside the NBA” and its termination, Charles Barkley has issued a bold statement regarding the NBA’s selection of Amazon over TNT.

A few weeks ago, Barkley revealed his plan to retire once “Inside the NBA” concluded. However, shocking news emerged yesterday: The league secured media rights deals with Disney, NBC, and Amazon, but neglected TNT in the process. Unimpressed by this development, Barkley expressed his disapproval on Instagram, as reported by Bleacher Report.

According to Barkley’s statement, it is clear that the NBA has had intentions to part ways with TNT from the start. Barkley questions if TNT ever truly had a chance in this business deal. He didn’t hold back in sharing his strong opinions on the matter. One significant point he raised was:

The NBA was content with TNT’s financial offer, yet understood that tech companies like Amazon were the most likely candidates to significantly increase their bids in the future. The league didn’t wish to alienate these powerful entities.

He added sadly, “it’s a disappointing turn of events” when those in charge prioritize financial gains over their supporters.

Charles Barkley concluded his remarks by expressing gratitude to NBA fans and the league for the opportunity to commentate over the years. He further mentioned his excitement for the upcoming 2024 TV lineup.

We’re going to give you everything we have next season.

Notably, Barkley also signed off with his name and “TNT Inside the NBA Analyst.”
