Dexter: Original Sin's Young Debra Actress Learned She Got The Role At Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, And Then Celebrated In The Most Fitting Way

As a huge fan of the original Dexter series, I can’t help but feel excited about the upcoming prequel, Dexter: Original Sin. And while some may criticize the later seasons of Dexter for losing their way, I believe it’s essential to appreciate the earlier seasons and the unforgettable characters they introduced.

Although the final seasons of “Dexter” on Showtime may have strayed from their initial success, overlooking the well-developed characters and earlier installments would be a disservice. Fortunately, many of these beloved characters will reappear in the prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin,” with new actors portraying younger versions. Notably, Molly Brown, who joined the cast as Debra Morgan, shared her excitement about landing the role during Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. I find it delightful how she chose to announce this major milestone.

One of Dexter’s most memorable characters was definitely Deb, brilliantly played by Jennifer Carpenter. Deb was known for her colorful language. Now, Molly Brown is set to step into Deb’s shoes, bringing the character to life during her teenage years. This is a significant role for the budding actress, and she shared during a Comic-Con panel her thrilling experience of learning that she had been given the part. Brown recalled:

Reflecting on recent events, I can’t help but feel a rollercoaster of emotions. Just when I thought I had a good chance at securing that coveted role, I received the news that I was among the finalists. Over the moon with excitement, I shared this wonderful news with my manager, jokingly telling him to text me if I didn’t get it as I wouldn’t want to be left guessing over a phone call.

I’ve been there myself, feeling the rush of anticipation as I stand on stage, performing for an audience. The lights, the music, the energy in the room – it’s an exhilarating experience that leaves you on the edge of your seat. But sometimes, even in the midst of it all, life has a way of throwing us a curveball.

As a gamer, I was taken aback when I heard Molly Brown had departed from the show. Every true Swiftie is well aware that “Karma” closes out Taylor Swift’s three-hour setlist. It would have been an ideal moment to shower in confetti and celebrate her new job, I mused aloud. However, the actress had other plans and gracefully countered with a more surprising idea.

I went back the next night to celebrate.

Molly Brown greatly looked forward to her first Eras Tour experience, but the anticipation of hearing about her potential role in the concert must have lingered at the back of her mind as Taylor Swift performed surprises and selected the recipient of the “22” hat. However, during the second night, she was able to fully immerse herself in the show, enjoying every moment from “Karma” to the confetti.

When the new series “Dexter: Original Sin” is released (requiring a Paramount+ subscription along with the Showtime add-on to watch), Patrick Gibson will assume the role of Dexter, complete with his inner darkness. Christian Slater, Christina Milian, and James Martinez are some of the talented actors who will breathe new life into previously known characters from “Dexter.”
