Wasserman Hires a Private Equity Veteran to Lead Dealmaking Strategy

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of immersion in the ever-evolving world of digital entertainment, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing about Steve Murray’s appointment as Executive VP of Mergers and Acquisitions and Strategy at Wasserman. With his extensive experience in private equity and a proven track record in strategically transformative transactions, particularly within the sports, music, and entertainment industries, he seems like the perfect fit to accelerate Wasserman’s growth trajectory.

Wasserman, a music and entertainment business, has brought on board Steve Murray, an experienced private equity professional, to take up the role of Executive Vice President for Mergers and Acquisitions and Strategic Planning.

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve joined the esteemed ranks of Hollywood’s talent, entertainment, sports, and advisory powerhouse, Wasserman, previously working as a principal at Providence Equity Partners. During my tenure there, I played a pivotal role in spearheading a strategic investment in Wasserman back in November 2022.

Casey Wasserman’s purchase of Brillstein broadened the scope of his company, allowing it to represent talent outside of sports, handle lifestyle marketing, and book music acts. This deal attracted new clients such as Brad Pitt, Florence Pugh, and Tiffany Haddish to his firm.

“Elena Rochelli, Wasserman’s CFO, stated that Steve’s 15-year expertise in intricate and transformative deal-making, combined with his extensive global understanding of the sports, music, and entertainment industries, makes him an ideal fit for our company as we aim to quicken our acquisition pace during this stage of growth.”

Murray joining Wasserman signals the company’s growth through M&A could gather pace.

“Murray expressed his excitement to be part of Wasserman’s upcoming expansion and explore potential mergers and acquisitions. He believes there is a great deal of potential for growth in this area and is eager to assist in making it a reality, contributing to the company’s future achievements.”

For twelve years at Providence, Murray handled matters related to sports, music, and entertainment, involving partnerships with the National Football League, Major League Soccer, Learfield, Real Madrid, and Warner Music.

He was skilled and knowledgeable in areas such as media licensing, online advertising, business contracts, copyright law for music, technological advancements, and educational fields.
