As a die-hard fan of Bollywood cinema, I have witnessed the evolution of the industry over the decades. And it pains me to see how the high entourage costs and the obsession with stardom have taken a toll on our beloved film world.

I’ve worked in the film industry for over a decade, and I must admit that I’ve been taken aback by some of the audacious decisions I’ve seen actors make lately. At a time when their movies aren’t even performing well in theatres, they have the nerve to hike up their entourage costs. It’s baffling to me, as someone who has seen the ebb and flow of public interest in certain actors.

Furthermore, Anil mentioned that only a few actors today have the ability to draw crowds to movie theaters, reminding us of the times when Bollywood produced films featuring stars like Dharmendra and many others, with tickets selling out weeks in advance. However, it’s rare to see such instances nowadays.

2014 saw a dip in Bollywood’s box office performance, which Anil Sharma attributed to a decrease in the appeal of actors. He pointed out that with constant visibility of actors on social media platforms like gym workouts and airport appearances, it raises the question as to why audiences would still want to watch them on the big screen.

The Gadar director expressed concern that these actors have become too visible in the industry. Consequently, they may attract sponsors and advertisers on social media platforms. However, their theatrical uniqueness has been compromised.

66-year-old director, during the same interview, pointed out that the allure of actors in the Southern film industry remains strong. He noted that audiences eagerly anticipate watching South actors on the big screen. According to Sharma, even if an actor isn’t a household name and the content is solid, the movie tends to be successful at the box office in the Southern region.

If the content is top-notch and the actors deliver exceptional performances, a Hindi film could potentially become a huge success. However, Anil lamented that currently, neither compelling content nor strong leading actors seem to be present in the Hindi film industry.

At the same time, the movie “Gadar 2” led by Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, produced by Anil Sharma, shattered previous box office records and achieved immense success in the annals of Indian cinema.
