As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can confidently say that the latest revelations at San Diego Comic-Con have me more excited than a level-up sequence in my favorite RPG! The teaser for Marvel’s Thunderbolts* has sent shivers down my spine and left me on the edge of my seat with anticipation.

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel truly outdid themselves, leaving fans like me absolutely spellbound with their revealing updates and shocking announcements about upcoming projects. One of the most electrifying moments was the grand entrance of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s latest superhero ensemble, Thunderbolts. Sharing the stage with Kevin Feige, the cast kept many secrets close to their chest, particularly when quizzed about the mysterious asterisk in the title. However, Florence Pugh couldn’t help but share a tantalizing tidbit: her most daring stunt in the movie involves taking a leap reminiscent of Tom Cruise – jumping off the second-tallest building in the world!

The structure under discussion is Merdeka 118, located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and it towers an impressive 678.9 meters high. This architectural wonder ranks as the second tallest building globally, trailing behind Burj Khalifa in Dubai (which stands at 828 meters). For anyone who recalls, Tom Cruise performed a breathtaking stunt on Burj Khalifa for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, without the assistance of harnesses or safety cables.

For Pugh, returning as Yelena Belova in the upcoming film, there’s an air of assurance. In a chat with Variety during Comic-Con, she acknowledged and praised the stunt team for their meticulous planning, backing, and creating a secure environment that allowed her to execute those high-risk stunts comfortably.

“It seems everyone enjoys the thrill of performing daring feats. This movie, with its unique blend of wonder and strangeness, is incredibly bold, and that’s all thanks to its exceptional cast.”

Jake Schreier’s upcoming film, titled “Thunderbolts,” promises to bring a thrilling new chapter to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It draws inspiration from Kurt Busiek’s comic series and focuses on a band of unconventional heroes, who find themselves recruited by the U.S. government for perilous assignments. This film offers a fresh, contemporary twist on the classic team dynamic and is anticipated to blend action and emotion effectively.

The cast of the movie “Thunderbolts” is truly outstanding. Among them, Florence Pugh portrays Yelena Boleva, while Sebastian Stan takes on the role of Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier. David Harbour stars as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus plays Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Hannah John-Kamen is Ava Starr, also known as Ghost, Wyatt Russell portrays John Walker, aka US Agent, and it’s rumored that Harrison Ford will reprise his character, Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, after making his first appearance in “Captain America: Brave New World“.

During the Comic-Con panel, each actor offered behind-the-scenes info about their characters. Julia Louis-Dreyfus explained that Valentina is aiming for power, control, and essentially wants to be a force to be reckoned with in the Marvel universe. On the other hand, Stan reflected on his journey within the MCU and expressed, “It’s like having nine lives! I wonder how many are left? I am incredibly grateful to see all of you here.”

Initially planned for a December 20, 2024 premiere, the movie “Thunderbolts*” has been moved to May 5, 2025, as a result of writers’ and actors’ strikes (WGA and SAG-AFTRA). However, this delay seems to have increased excitement for the film, as it will signify the conclusion of Marvel’s Phase 5, which has been known for stirring up debate.
