They were inquired about the meaning of “pulling a Felicity” following a television event in the ’90s, to which Bush promptly replied:
During my time in One Tree Hill, this specific period is etched into my mind. This is because we were strictly prohibited from altering our hairstyles due to the series’ ’90s theme. To revisit that TV show moment, I’d choose D, hair, as the final answer – and I mean it sincerely. We simply weren’t allowed to change our haircuts.
The TV series “Felicity,” featuring Keri Russell, started in 1999 on The WB and ran until 2002, making it a fairly recent hit when “One Tree Hill” debuted in 2003. Despite the show’s initial critical acclaim, its viewership dropped significantly from Season 1 to Season 2. A popular theory about why “Felicity” struggled is that the show was already doomed after Keri Russell cut her curly hair into a bob for Season 2, a decision that became notorious in pop culture. Interestingly, this dramatic change in appearance was initially a joke by Russell, but it ultimately had significant consequences for the show’s success.
It seems that the management at “One Tree Hill” were keen to prevent a situation like what happened with “Felicity” and Sophia Bush, as well as the rest of the cast, by not allowing them to get personal haircuts. While it’s questionable if Keri Russell’s hair was the main reason for “Felicity” failing, it’s clear that “One Tree Hill” ran longer than “Felicity” did. “Felicity” concluded after 84 episodes across four seasons, whereas “One Tree Hill” continued for nine seasons and a total of 187 episodes.
