Tarot Trends on Netflix Despite Awful 18% Rotten Tomatoes Score

As a seasoned gamer and movie enthusiast who’s seen more horror films than I can count the cards of, let me share my thoughts on the recent release of Tarot, now streaming on Netflix. With its unique premise based on tarot cards and an ensemble cast led by Jacob Batalon, it certainly piqued my curiosity.

destiny seems to have given the Tarot card game a successful run among viewers, particularly on streaming platforms. The rather underwhelming horror movie, featuring Jacob Batalon from Spider-Man, has climbed up to the third spot on Netflix after its online release on August 1st. Directed by Anna Halberg and Spenser Cohen, the film aimed to frighten audiences in theaters, but the results were somewhat uneven. It’s worth mentioning that Tarot performed well financially during its cinema run.

On a modest production budget of just $8 million, the film ‘Tarot’ managed to generate a domestic box office revenue of $18.8 million (according to Box Office Mojo). However, it was even more successful overseas where the movie, led by Batalon, brought in an additional $30.3 million. Notably, ‘Tarot’ performed exceptionally well in Spain ($2.4 million) and France ($2.2 million), contributing to a global total of $49.1 million. This is more than six times its initial investment, making it a clear success.

Initially, it’s surprising to see that Tarot performed so well given the lukewarm reception from both fans and viewers towards the horror movie. The film received only a 18% rating on the Tomatometer based on 57 reviews, and its Rotten Tomatoes audience score stands at 59%. At the moment of this writing, audiences have given Tarot a “C-” CinemaScore upon leaving the theater after watching it. Considering horror movies, that’s a relatively low grade.

Jacob Batalon Believes Tarot Is Quite Unique

As a dedicated horror movie enthusiast who has watched countless films from this genre over the years, I must admit that my curiosity was piqued when I heard about “Tarot” making its way to Netflix. Having grown up with classic horror flicks and being no stranger to the initial lukewarm reception a film might receive on Rotten Tomatoes or CinemaScore, I decided to give it a chance.

I found it incredibly enjoyable and a unique twist on the horror genre, as it draws inspiration from tarot cards, which isn’t something we often encounter. It seems that many young people today have an interest in astrology and similar topics. This aspect makes it particularly relatable. Additionally, the idea of hanging out with college friends and joking about it sounds fantastic.

In a chat with Moviefone, Batalon highly commended the film “Tarot”. He remarked, “I found it hilarious and exceptionally well-crafted, as well as incredibly relatable. I believe the bond between the characters is so powerful that you don’t want any of them to meet a tragic end. Simply put, the movie turned out fantastic.”

“They were incredibly skilled and delightful individuals, always a pleasure to be around. I’m certain the girls had a keen interest in tarot, they were quite passionate about it. It was just your average circle of friends.

Despite MovieWeb’s review of the horror film “Tarot” giving it a score of just 2 out of 5, it’s evident that Batalon’s involvement significantly enhances the movie. In contrast to his roles in the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man films, Batalon delivers a unique performance here, and this project provides him with an excellent platform to showcase his acting abilities, as demonstrated in Netflix’s latest offering.

Tarot can currently be found streaming on Netflix, however, it’s important to note that it’s not accessible through their ad-supported subscription plans.
